Post by: Scoobum on May 08 2018, 08:01:22 PM
Is there any copper in the stock pistons?

Not that I know of. You got copper in the pan?  Better pull rod and main caps and have a look at the bearings

Bearings are mint...zero detonation...S coob knows how to tune. There's copper in those pistons. I wore 'em down far enuf to prove it. Cross hatch marks are still on the cylinder walls. Between Dan and I we have several sets of stock pistons on rods. If we can put together one good set at Joes on Saturday in Montreal...don't be surprised to see us throw rings and bearings in it with the same cam/lifters and keep going.

This engine has about 500 eighth mile passes on between 6.8 to 7.2. Stock bore and pistons. I had Joe install rings and bearings and balance it...that's it.

The stock piston is cast aluminum with an iron reinforcement. ..like a diesel piston somewhat.  I wonder if there is some copper in the pin bush?
