My cousin has a diesel rabbit(old I know) that gets 50mpg according to him. My Cummins only does about 15-16mpg but it is a 6.7L

what are your rebuild plans? over bore? cut n polish crank? new fancy crank n rods and some forged pistons? Machine shop picked out? or is this just a drop it off and write a check later type project?

As seen in my yrs long trans thread I am slow. I did get some new body bolts. I have the original frame sitting on stands and have the steering box, and front suspension reinstalled. Need to run the new stainless brake lines I bought and a fuel line, but haven't gotten a filter ordered yet. Kinda pricey but I want to be able to clean the filter and not have to replace the element.

I have some 1/2" line to run for fuel and was going to use the old feed for the return.
As seen I have the fancy new to me rear control arms and the rear in the 86 roller I bought. Gotta get the pulled.
I've been working on getting the short block situated. Turns out the crank the seller 'threw in" has .020 rod journals and .010 mains so I have ordered bearing to see how that will work out. Have new cam bearings, lifters and a used cam. Then I can see about the heads.

Lots of dreams and I plug away when I can get out there.

Cost of labor is ridiculous too. I don't sit down and cost out mods or even my time out in the garage/driveway. But I know it has value and so do you. I dont mind doing things for my buddies and even some casual friend but that is usually comped for little welding or plasma cutting stuff. But when I ask for help or what not there shall be reciprocation(and if I get the brush off I'm not likely to forget). And I don't turn down some beer or other type gesture(nonmonetary comp) when the activity takes place.

In the end it is a hobby to me and if I had to do it for a living, I doubt I'd last very long as people in general suck. And having a boss over in my grille about this or that isn't really in my wheel house.

Not sure where you are getting a paint job for $7500. Have you priced just the materials lately? That is obscene.

I know these are v8 guys but they seem to have such a small group their board has become fundage challenged. Didn't know if we might help em out with a section or if that is just not something that could or would be done.

Just a thought for some Buick brethren.

My neighbor is generally sporting his heater in a holster on his hip or the small of his back. I don't see it as a problem. Way better to have and not need then need and not have.

My son told me he thought the roadmaster antenna looked a lot like the one in the Regal. Might be able to get one from a wrecking yard. Easier than the regal as it is in the back in the trunk.

That's why I love my bikes. Throw a leg over them and go. I don't miss wrenching.
I love to wrench. My kids got me a nifty red shade thing as they think it it too hot out there in the sun to be doing it.

I am looking forward to the green mile busting off and going for a cruise! I'm glad when progress it made.

No doubt on the bleeding. I used to wonder why my dad was bleeding over stuff. Now I bleed all over the project. Oh well, ain't getting any younger.

Trans would bring some good coin to the right buyer. I would think the long block part of the engine would be of value to some but the intake , exhaust, ignition, front pulleys and sensors are all different.

General Buick Tech / Lifters
« on: June 07 2022, 04:29:01 PM »
It appears as the Elgin l1969s lifters I had planned on are made in Mexico now and I don't see any old stock of the made in USA ones.
Any thoughts on the made in Mexico units or a better lifter to chose for this build.
Also came across this but it clearly states not for the turbo so I don't know what to make of that. Any Thoughts on that?

Rules for thee, but not for me
These types need voted out. He was certainly right when he told those workers he doesn't work for them. Sadly he managed to get elected anyway.

Unless you are in a big hurry to pull it apart, I would put some acetone/auto trans fluid in the cylinder and let it soak overnight or a week, to possibly loosen those rings up enough to get it fired off. Running it, I would think, would loosen those rings up. But I'm a cheapskate with more time than money. Even a premix two stoke gas down the plug hole and some into the intake to maybe get it to run a bit and give it some lubrication could help. Amazing what some heat does for stuck metal.
