Transmissions / Need help wiring 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches
« on: August 27 2012, 12:23:00 AM »
Once I got my replacement trans up in the car I dropped the pan and found this.

Their are no wires connected to the solenoids.  I am going to pull out my factory manual tomorrow but I need some help.  The trans is a 84-85 and my car is a 87.  It looks like it has the two pressure switches that I need.  I labeled them 1 and 2 in the picture can someone tell me which one is 3rd gear and which one is 4th?

I need to buy the connector for those switches, and I need the 4 pin connector that passes through the case.
Where can I get those, does anyone have part numbers or a source?

My front foam is junk and needs replaced.  My rear foam top and bottom is ok condition but smells horrible.

i will check out the links.

I found this company
http://www.puiinteriors.com/index.php/products/seat-foam

Looks like they made front seat foam but no rear.

I am sitting working on cleaning up my 87 WE4 from the mice that moved in.  I am on to the seats.  My front seats needed recovered before I parked the car, the rear seat was is ok condition.  I have been trying to clean the seats but the foam smells like mouse real bad and the covers are only coming somewhere clean.

Any ideas how to clean the foam?

Where can I buy new foam and new covers?

It looks good!
I realized you are missing one of the support bars so I can understand why the vertical bar to support external tranny cooler.
I got a "U" shape clamp from Home Depot and installed the external tranny cooler on both support bars.

Were they from the electrical section?

Ok I will go look at the car and see how that will work out.  Along that same track I found this where instead of zip ties someone used the rubber insulated clamps, I will look into that too.  http://turbobuick.com/forums/threads/installation-tips-on-a-hayden-1679-trans-cooler.374369/

I also found different variations of this:  http://www.turbobuicks.com/forums/attachments/transmission-section/30630d1201215963-trans-cooler-img_0172.jpg

My question about that is what is are they using with the two bolts to clamp onto the supports.   I might try to do something using that clamp arrangement, mount the cooler to the far PS to the core support itself and then use a clamp like that on just one end.

agree with above, I worked at a parts store in college, sometimes the replacement parts have a different sized hex on them.  As long as they are the same thread and overall length you are fine.

Since it is a ford i have a funny story, I was helping a friend change out the gears in his 98 mustang.  We were both working on on taking the axles out and sharing tools since you needed the same for both sides.  After getting in an arguement over where the 10mm wrench was at since he had to have used it to remove the brake caliper bolts on his side, we realized that one caliper had no bolts holding it on to the car.  :O This was a car that ran 11.50 on the motor and 10.60 on the bottle.  He had never worked on the rear brakes since he had bought the car two years before that.

It reassured me I do the right thing spending the time to look at every part of a used car after I bring it home.  You never know what idiot worked on it before you.

I need to install a trans cooler, and I am looking for pictures of other guys setups for ideas how to mount.  I am going to buy a bar and plate style cooler, and want to install it in front of my condenser.  I am not going to use the zip ties that go through the condensor so I am just looking for ideas for how to mount it.  I am thinking about making some kind of brackets maybe out of aluminum strap.

I should also add I have seen pictures of where guys have installed them under the car and under the battery tray and such.  I don't have a front mount and don't want to deal with wiring a fan right now, so I just want to put it up front.

Thanks
