Title: Ground cable at Turbo bracket
Post by: gnonyx on April 22 2020, 04:02:57 PM
Well it's that time again to reinstall the turbo back again after replacing the turbo flange gasket.
I do have a question, the ground cable that attach to the lower end bolt of the turbo bracket, is this cable mounted on the block itself or is it mounted on the turbo bracket?
Thanks

Bolt goes thru the terminal, thru the bracket and into the head

Thanks Steve you're alway there with your wisdom knowledge
I didn't want to bolt everything and then realize the mistake and take it all apart again

Or worse, be that guy that drives around with the only ground attached being that small wire that runs from the battery terminal to the sheet metal on the inner fender...which is way more common than you might imagine LOL

How true as one probably like myself who would forgetting the engine ground when installing the turbo back. Not that I wouldn't know about it, but when putting things back together, that ground cable is so hidden you tend to forget to reinstall it.
Speaking of the ground cable, what a T.I.A. trying to put the bottom turbo bracket bolt back through the ground cable terminal and threaded into the engine block.
Tomorrow I will post again with results of the exhaust leaks with the scanmaster numbers

it can be a pain.  A 3/8" socket on a wobble extension can make it pretty easy if you get the light just right to be able to look down and see where you are aiming the bolt

Loosen the 2 nuts at the turbo bracket, then you can move the bracket around easily and start the bolts.

I think a year or two ago when we swapped heads on my GN, that I put that brace on and made the first bolt in, the one with the cable on it....then I did the others.  Definitely had it loose so it would move around.  the last few times I did it, I had no problem but I remember long ago cussing it. :D
