Tint removal

OK so what is the best way to remove bad tint on the rear window without destroying the heater element.

Looks like it has been there for a long time and has bubbled etc.

The gentleman that removed mine had a full blown gas mask on...so whatever the crap is...ain't good for your lungs.

Ammonia softens it IRCC. Heat gun helps too

I was going to say a carefully used heat gun. As for the removal of any residue, I'm not sure. Interested though..

I think I used lacquer thinner for the glue residue after I warmed the film with a hairdryer and got the glue to release. Door glass.

NO idea what thinner would do to the glue holding the foil.

A big fukkin hammer always gets the tint off properly.   :add_wegbrech:
 
It is a bit expensive, but it is worth it in the end.  I am relatively serious with this post as well.  Either use a BFH or take it somewhere and pay to have it removed.  I am cheap and it is worth paying someone to remove it.

remove as much as you can physically use a good automotive adhesive remover for residue...it takes time but you will not damage rear defogger

I have left one of mine sitting out while I have been working on the Challenger.  I see the tint is removing itself-rolling up from the edges

Thanks for the tips - I need to remove the old tint from the 87 T and the wife's Integra.

X2, I used a hairdryer to heat the tint up good, nice sharp new blades, and start peeling in a corner, followed by more heat! I also used lacquer thinner to clean up the glue residue left behind. I chose not to retint it myself, I took it to a tint shop.

Do you have rear defrost?
Yes I do, I get the tint good and hot at one side, start at a corner and peel as a continue heating the tint. If your lucky like I was, it'll mostly peel off in a nice big chunk. What ever was left behind I use a razor very carefully around the defroster lines.Then I clean it up with lacquer thinner or rubbing alcohol.
