IHADAV8 Playground / Got my QQ Plates Today
« on: April 19 2012, 07:49:43 PM »
my 1967 Buick Special Deluxe is officially named Elise after my recently deceased grandmother. This was her middle name. I chose this name as her first name was Amy and the car does not feel like an Amy..

Just throwing this out there...Nation al Trail has been approach by a DYNO company that is willing to come to the track for events. This is at no cost to the BPG or NTR. The cost for 3 Runs on their machine is $75.00 plus tax. This would be the first time for a Dyno at a BPG event as in the past companies wanted the BPG to "rent" the machine and we did not know if enough people would use it to cover the expense...Let me know if you are interested and I will set it up

IHADAV8 Playground / I worked on the 67 today
« on: March 17 2012, 09:42:15 PM »
It had an oil  pan leak so the previous owner left me a gasket and I decided to replace it today. Boy was it a pleasure to work on this car. even though it is 45 years old it had been well taken care of. The hardest part was cleaning out the garage but I had Tims help and he helped sweep and clean up.  I put the car up on the lift for the first time and was amazed as you can see by the pictures how clean it was underneath. I saw that the skirts were not bolted in but were attached the same way my Grand LeMans skirts were...so off they came.  I then went to work on the oil pan...the 2 bolts on either side of the cross member were finger tight the rest were semi tight. they all came out with no issues. I dropped the pan only to realize that it would not just drop out...off came the TQ inspection cover...then unbolted the drivers side engine mount...no rust no breaker bar...just came undone...same with passenger side....I then got my under car supports out and lifted the engine up...and voila the pan came out. I scrapped off the gasket and then took my grinder with wire brush and cleaned up all the gasket material. I was surprised to find very little sludge/debris at the bottom of the pan..I then cleaned it out with wax and grease remover...appl ied gasket adhesive on the bolt holes and a smear around the pan itself and put the gasket on. put a piece of plywood ontop and let it set up for 15 mins..I then cleaned the bottom of the block and slid then pan back into place...slowly lowered engine and installed the engine mount bolts and buttoned everything up. Lowered car...filled with oil...and started up....SHOOT it is still leaking....so while running I lifted car up and looked underneath to see where oil was dripping from. It was leaking from the mechanical oil pressure gauge fitting....tig htened that up no leak...yippee. ..lowered car...and took for a spin...no drips no leaks no errors...  attached are some pictures of the skirts and of the underside which is RUST FREE

IHADAV8 Playground / Took my New Old buick for a ride
« on: March 06 2012, 08:35:43 PM »
well that was cool...took the Buick for a drive with my youngest son Tim. We went to local Advance Auto Parts to pick up a beverage holder for my coffee. I opted for one that slides in between window and door. Tim thinks its cool...the car that is...anyway I pull in and the local Import Crowd are there I park and get out and go inside. The manager sees the car and goes outside..he is an older man in his 60's and comes back inside and tells one of the "kids" to go out and check out some American Muscle....we chew the fat for a few mins...I tell him the story how i got the car and how much I paid...blah blah blah... I pay for my coffee holder and Tim got a new key ring. I go out side and the Import guys are swarming the car...hey Mister that's a sharp car...Thats a cool ride...etc.... I left with a huge smile on my face. and I punched it leaving the lot and got a little squeak of the tires.  Tim who is 8 says Daddy you have the coolest car around...gotta love kids they tell the truth...

on the car end...it shifted smooth and has some kick to its butt....punche d it from a stop and it is quicker than my durango....dow n shifted from a cruise and it got up and went...am happy with it

here is the best part....I applied to Hagerty insurance and asked for stated value at $5000 they said no and valued the car at $12000.00 based on the pictures I sent and their research....I contacted a buddy of mine in Ohio who is a Hagerty rep and he said to take the value...I would of gone thru him direct but he is not liscensed to do ins in NJ

IHADAV8 Playground / Looks like I have a new Buick
« on: February 22 2012, 09:40:51 AM »
payment and shipping details are to be worked out but my offer was accepted

It is a 1967 Buick Special Deluxe...I have been searching for a few mos for something different...st ayed away from the popular cars as what I was looking for was not in my or my wifes...lol budget...It is a CA car with a little rust that should be any easy fix for me. I wanted something to go to car shows and take the kids and dog for ice cream...and that was turn key and I would not need to do a lot of work on.. My wife saw the interior and liked it...after a few e-mails and PM's with Brad Conley, Chris Pollak and the current owner on the V8 board we struck a deal. So after 10 plus years with the GN that I sold I am back with a V8...
