« on: December 28 2011, 09:13:32 AM »
New motor is in...he went to crank it and nothing.

Brake light is the only light that is illuminated on the dash.
Headlights won't turn on, but the parking lights will.

Anyways, this is a picture of one of my lower a-arms from gbodyparts that is separating/cracked.  The opposite side is showing signs that it's well on it's way out as well.

IHADAV8 Playground / X-Box 360 Questions
« on: December 03 2011, 09:51:49 PM »
We bought an x-box 360 and kinect bundle for the kids for Christmas, plus one additional controller.

What other accessories should we get for this thing and which ones aren't worth the time/effort/money?

Does it have internal memory or do we need to buy it?

General Buick Tech / Battery Relocation
« on: November 22 2011, 08:52:22 PM »
I'm having a pre-luber installed, and right now it looks like the best spot to put it will be...where the battery currently sits.

Still debating it, but we might move the battery to the trunk.

I thought for sure Casper's would make a battery relocation kit, but I don't see one listed.

Options?

Ideas?

General Buick Tech / Power antenna
« on: November 20 2011, 10:06:02 AM »
So...of course, when you're trying to show someone how something works, it fucking breaks.  I replaced the power antenna in '99 after I first bought the car and I'd be willing to bet that I've only used it a dozen times since then.

I have an AC Delco CD Player (part # 16085434) with wiring harness adapters, and the Kirban's Power Antenna cut off switch that I run to the switch panel in my ash tray.  I have an open switch on that panel and I'm going to use it for my pre-luber.

So I'm showing him what the other two switched do, and sure enough, the damn power antenna decides to take a crap right there.  The motor won't stop turning with the battery connected (regardless of whether the key is in it or not) and the mast sticks out about 3 inches and won't go down any further than that (but you can pull it all the way out freely without any resistance).

We disconnected the wiring harness (see pic).

Do I have to replace the power antenna?

Can I fix the one I have?  Can I just jam the SOB back down into the sleeve/motor?

If I have to replace the power antenna, does the passenger fender have to come off?

Is there an alternative to the antenna?  Is there some kind of flush mounted dome thing I can attach there?  I really don't want a fixed mast since I cover the car and don't want to have to screw it on and off all the time.

Well, drove down to NOLA today for an interview tomorrow.  Holy crap, coming in on I10W it looks like a war zone in the neighborhoods off of the interstate.  There were still old hotels and what not with all the windows/patio doors blown out and the curtains flapping in the wind.

The drive down I65 and I10 was nice because it was basically a non-stop car show as I must have seen hundreds of cars from '30s to the '70s on the interstate today.  And about a half dozen on the side of the highway with wreckers.  Only saw one TR (a GN) on a trailer...

There is definitely no shortage of Chevelles and Cutlasses out there in the world as that is what the majority of the cars I saw today were.  After that it was probably El Caminos, lots of El Caminos.

General Auto Tech / Tire Pressure with different sized tires than OEM
« on: October 08 2011, 04:15:25 PM »
Just curious how you determine what PSI to use on a vehicle when you replace the tires with a different size than what was OEM.

I've read that one "rule of thumb" is to use the max. PSI listed on the tire minus 10%.

General Buick Tech / Tire Pressure (& Air Bags too)
« on: October 08 2011, 03:54:08 PM »
Just curious what kind of tire pressure I should be using:

235/60/R15 Pirellis
P275/50/15 MT Drag Radials
Air Bags (L&R)

Right now I think I have like 26PSI in each of the fronts and 16PSI in the rears.

Vladimir Putin wants Soviet-style power bloc to rival EU
Quote
Vladimir Putin has said he wants to forge a "Eurasian Union" on the vast swath of territory that used to be the Soviet Union to compete with the European Union and the United States. Speaking six months before he reassumes the Russian presidency for the third time, Mr Putin said he wanted to create a global power bloc that would straddle one fifth of the earth's surface and unite almost 300 million people. "We have a great inheritance from the Soviet Union," he wrote in an article extolling the idea in the daily Izvestia newspaper. "We inherited an infrastructure, specialised production facilities, and a common linguistic, scientific and cultural space. It is in our joint interests to use this resource for our development." The Russian prime minister called the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union "the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century" and is known for revelling in Soviet nostalgia. He denied his new plan was an attempt to resurrect the Russian-led superpower, insisting that the Eurasian Union would be freer than the Soviet Union and membership would be voluntary. "We are not talking about recreating the USSR," Mr Putin claimed. "It would be naive to try to restore or copy what was in the past. But time dictates that we should have closer integration based on values, politics and economics." The Soviet Union included 15 different republics which became independent countries after its chaotic collapse in 1991. Three of those countries

For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / Garage Sale - lots of junk
« on: September 23 2011, 11:40:55 PM »
So, I decided that there really isn't much point into keeping this stuff in bins anymore since I'll never have a need for any of the OEM stuff in the event I want to put the car back to stock...that just ain't ever gonna happen so no point in hoarding crap I'll never use again.

The first list is just a bunch of stuff that I presume is OEM that I took off of the car between '99 and '04 and boxed up.  It all worked when it was on the car, no telling if it works now after being stored and shipped by movers across the country and back again.

Make offer (keep in mind shipping as it is being shipped from 36330).   Paypal only.

2 Bar MAP Sensor
Air Filter
Air Filter Housing
AM/FM Cassette Player (in '99 I had the tape deck repaired...I think it still works)
Ash Tray
Charcoal Canister Bracket
Chip
Crankshaft Sensor (I'm pretty sure this is one of the "recalled" ones...not sure why anyone would want it, but here it is nonetheless)
Downpipe Shield
Fuel Injectors
Fuel Pressure Regulator
I/C Throttle Body Inlet Pipe
IAC
Instrument Cluster - SOLD & SHIPPED
Jack (I have the original spare/donut in storage if you want to buy that too)
Oil Filler Tube
Oil Pressure Sender
Passenger Side Valve Cover to Turbo Tubing
PCV
Plug Wires (I don't know if these are original or not, they're grey and they say "Autolite" on them)
Pulleys (minus alternator)
Radiator Cap
Radiator Overflow Tank
Rear End Cover & Hardware
Rear License Plate Bracket
Rear Speaker Hangars (Pair)
Rearview Mirror
Starter (funny story:  when I bought the car, I didn't know a damn thing about a GN.  One night, I started it in the garage and the lights from underneath the car lit up the garage.  It was kinda cool...but odd.  I asked my friend about it and he said it had something to do with the high performance starter on it  .  So, for the next four years I'm driving it around and everytime I start it it shoots out sparks/flames.  When I finally get the car to a TR expert he finds that socket you see wedged in there and it had been arcing against it...)
TPS
Transmission Oil Pan
Turbo Cover
Vacuum Block
Water Temp Sender
Windshield Washer Fluid Tank

ATR Billet Oil Filler Tube
ATR Black Beauty 8mm Plug Wires (7...yeah, I know there is 7 of them in the pic)
ATR Pitbull Chip
Casper's Tach Tap Mating
Casper's VDO Converter (2)
Kirban Brake Dust Shield (4)
Kirban's MAF Bracket
Quick Spool Controller (I don't know who made this...I think I ordered it off of ebay, but never used it)
Red's Volt Booster (it was installed and used for only a day or so then decided it wasn't what I needed/wanted)
Stewart Warner 10K RPM Tach (never installed, I just used it when I was troubleshootin g a problem with my 8K tack)

General Buick Tech / What is it and why is it there?
« on: September 07 2011, 10:20:49 PM »
I found these on the frame, inside the rear wheel well, on both sides.

They feel like plastic caps that are just pushed into a hole on the frame that read HS.

What are they and what are they for?
