Here's a pic of the last run I made at Armdrop in June. This is a MT 28x10.5x15 slick mounted on the 7 inch GN rim. I'm aware it should be on an 8 inch rim...but it is what it is. Tire pressure was 10.2. Note the feather edging on the outsides. Shoot me a tire pressure to try and get this to a full contact patch. I have a high end slick tire pressure gauge that reads in tenths.
-
I would add one more pound of pressure. Pretty sure you are doing short burnouts already. Other than a wider wheel to square up the tire, I don't know what else to do. You are not using tubes, are you?
-
Nothing to add except that size tire requires a 10 in rim___ 8 inch rim is good for 9 in slick.

Here is another option

He is in the same situation I am in, I too run the same size tire on a 7" rim. I did think of getting the factory turbine rims widened. But you have to work with what you got.

Ron...you've seen that track. It's damn near gravel. These MT's I'm using 1 got for 50 bucks a while back...and even there to good for it.
Steve...no tubes. I'll try 1 pound higher and have a look after one run.
-
Brad i'm not dissing at all or as Jack Webb would say just the facts.
Not ideal, it is what it is.

You're completely correct on rim size...but I'm not wasting my good slicks. If I had a pair of wider rims with a 4 inch backspace I'd use them. I'll likely be parked with the Nostalgia guys. See ya' there!
-
Brad mine are on 10" wide wheels 12-14psi usually works.
Looks like the asphalt is just shredding them.
-
May take 2-3, I think the tire is moving around and not running a nice clean straight line on the asphalt.
-
my 28X9 Hoosier was doing the same thing and would not hook.I went to a Aero 8 in with 4 in backspace and tire squared up and it hooks. It is a low cost 8 in wheel that solved my problem and I added air to the tire, about 13 lb if i remember right.and that took a lot of that sway out on the top of the traps.
I was trying to keep cost down and look stock, the chrome look stock at first glance and just weight 18lb
-
and they Aero make a 10in wheel too

Any pix of said wheel/tire combo?

I'm just to dumb to post a pic

Are you able to take pix?
If so, there are three rows of things above the box you type your content in. Do you see them^^^^?
The second(middle) row first square is one you click on to upload a pic, click on it.
Then you can chose the pic you want and upload it to the thread post.

Email them to me nocooler@gmail.com - I'll post them for you, might not be able to get them posted tonight.

It says enter picture location http// Then I'm lost.
I can put pictures on facebook and in an e mail no problem why can't a website be that easy?
-
Hit the preview button, that opens up more advanced options. It should give you the attachment option. There is a size limit, in most cases I needed to resize my pictures before uploading.
-
Sorry, I thought it was hosted. If it is on your computer the plus sign below the box with the attachments and other options, open that by clicking on the plus sign.
Scroll down a bit to the attach and click on the choose file box. This will open another window and you can move through your computer to find the pix you want to ad to the post.
-
You can go into paint in Windows 10 and resize. Choose pixels and type in 680...it'll do the rest.

Same pattern at 11.2 pounds after 3 runs Saturday. Discuss amongst yourselves.
-
Wheels are too narrow and the surface is shit.
-
What's wrong with racing on gravel? That's why I use the oldest pair of slicks I have. Dan with the Roadrunner and Kevin with the Coronet both used wore out DR's on the weekend. It's a pedalfest! LOL!!!
-
In the past they at least gave a time. why not this time?
-
What size are your street lites? Might be time for a cheap 10" wheel. Does anyone have a set around that you could borrow and try them?
-
I have the 9 inch slicks on my Streetlites. Armdrop is just for fun...and the tarmac is fukd...so you don't use anything good there.
-

Timing equipment went for a fuk right off the hop. Glen and his volunteers are there the nite before setting everything up. It's a huge undertaking. If you noticed the yellow Mach 1? Mustang across from the start...that's Steve that looks after the timing. He comes in from Newmarket the nite before to set up. Doubt he gets much sleep.
Armdrop started off at SMP prolly 11-12 years ago...by another gent. Think there was 20-30 of us at the first one. Joe DaSilva ran an event there as well. The gent that originally started it...quit. Glen took it over...but the guy wouldn't give him the name. Glen changed the name and moved it to Picton Airfield. I can boast that I'm the only one that has raced at every event since it started. Glen is trying to put an event on at the old Mohawk Dragway...but several of the elders are putting up a fuss...saying we'll wreck the tarmac. Glen was talking to me about possibly one at SMP as well...but the cost is prohibitive there.
-
Gotcha - your probably doing the best you can with what you got!
-
Jeremy...this is a pic Ron took of the rear tire showing the pattern. Ignore it...and look at the tarmac. You get the idea. And there's cracks with weeds growing out of them as well. You don't bring anything good there.
