General Auto Tech / Advice For Air Conditioning Compressor
« on: December 29 2013, 08:27:25 AM »
The clutch in the air conditioning compressor in my 94 Impala SS smoked itself in late summer...so I'm looking for a good quality replacement unit. Open to suggestions... thanks.

General Buick Tech / AF Ratio For C16
« on: December 25 2013, 11:44:58 AM »
I have a friends car that I'm gonna be tuning in the spring. He's gonna be running straight C16. What's a safe AF to start out at for C16? Engine has aluminum heads...if that makes a difference.

General Buick Tech / Time For A FMIC?
« on: November 06 2013, 04:27:02 PM »
I'm to the point of getting comfortable running 28 plus PSI of boost. I currently have a GBODY PARTS stretched SLIC...and I run alky...and bracket race the car...so cooldown times can be short. I only track the car...so driveability isn't an issue. Is it time to go to a FMIC for cooler air charge temps at higher boost pressures to lessen the chance of KR...and to help heat soak between runs when racing? I'd be going to the RJC 325...which is the street version Jason sells. Your thots guys.

General Buick Tech / TA SE Aluminum Heads Question
« on: October 15 2013, 06:54:45 PM »
Grabbed these off Norbs a couple years back...and they have a couple hours run time on them and a couple of dyno pulls. These are the street version...not the race version...tho Norbs had Nick Micale massage them a little more. Season is over...and Dan and I have my engine out for a freshening...a nd I may bolt these bad boys on. Question is this. What spark plugs would work best in these heads running 25 PSI.

General Buick Tech / Voltage Drop/Struggling Revs
« on: October 07 2013, 04:42:13 PM »
This car of Dan Kellers is possessed. I'll get you guys up to speed. Engine is rebuilt. Had Dan at track with me Saturday. I jumped in the passengers seat and watched the PL as we went down the track. Boost is 21 pounds and 02's were 790 going thru the traps...zero KR. Revs topped out around 4600...and it struggled in every gear to build RPM. Volts are in the mid 13's...until he gets into boost...and then they drop to low 12's. Battery/alternator are new. New Racetronix fuel pump and hanger. IDC is 95 percent...and injectors are new 60's with matching TT chip. I can give you any other info from PL...so fire away...cuz this car is driving me nuts.
P.S. His personal mechanic works on the car...not me. The car feels like the timing is retarded. Is it possible if he didn't put the 1.5" timing tape on the balancer...and then move it around when setting the cam sensor...would this be the issue...or would it even start?

P.S. 2. New hotwire kit as well.

P.S. 3. It pops the fuel pump fuse frequently he told me.

General Buick Tech / Fuel Pressure Drop
« on: September 15 2013, 08:12:09 PM »
Got a call from a GN owner this morning. He has an in car fuel pressure gauge and it dropped to 20 lbs last nite while he was driving home with the engine under no load/boost. This morning it was back up to 38 with no load/boost. New Racetronix SS hanger and pump. AFPR is a used unit I gave him back in the spring...so it could be suspect. Also...he hasn't swapped out to a new fuel filter as of yet...and injectors are new 60's. Same thing happened to me when my AFPR went south. Open to suggestions as to what's wrong. I swear this guys car is possessed...it's been giving me fits the entire year.

General Buick Tech / Learn From My Stupidity
« on: July 06 2013, 10:47:34 AM »
While my friend was taking a calm down pill from doing a moonshot with his Hayabusa, I pulled some more low gear fuel from my GN and then took it down the strip for a PL run, Hazed the DR's the length of the grandstand and it pulled like a freight train when it hooked up. All was well till the three quarter track mark...and then it fell on its face...felt like it went into neutral. Turned the corner and it was down a couple of cylinders. SM said no KR and 756 for 02's. WTF?! Got back to the trailer. No smoke...no steam...normal oil level...felt around an couldn't feel anything around the heads to indicate the headgasket(s) had blown out. Pulled the coil/module off and separated them. One of the coil tabs had broken off...lost 2 cylinders. I know why. I installed a new coil pack about a year ago...and you have to bend the tabs down...and you can only do it once. I remember pushing on one of the wires...and the tab came back up maybe 30 degrees...and I gently bent it back down. Prolly best to push the wire on and then bend the tab down. Installed a spare coil pack and made an 1/8th mile blast...all went well. Lesson learned.

General Auto Tech / Starting Point For Alky?
« on: July 05 2013, 10:48:42 AM »
I've been entrusted to tune my friends 1300cc 60mm turbocharged alky injected Hayabusa. The alky is non progressive. Compression ratio is 10:1. No intercooler. I have onboard telemetry to datalog with. Dress rehearsel is tonite. Where would you guys recommend the turn on point for the alky,,,what boost level do I bring it on at. I can adjust it in one pound increments. Looking at about 80 degrees tonite with 85 percent humidity. AF...maybe start off at 9...10;1?
