Cracked Alky Tank-Repair Suggestions

I drove the GN right up until the snow started a few weeks back. I noticed the tank was mysteriously empty the last time I drove it. I filled it up and parked it. Looks like winter's over so I went out and fired it up...and sure enuf...the alky tank is empty. I noticed it has a seam so it's actually two pieces glued together...and I'm betting the seam has cracked underneath it. What do you guys recommend for a repair? Hot glue gun? Epoxy?

Silicone should work fine.

The radiator overflow tank for my Suzuki LTZ400 got a hole in it. I skinned around the area with a thin coat f silicone, then put a thin piece of plastic (Cut from a blister pack for something I had used) put it over the hole, then skinned over that with a bit more silicone.

What will hold up to 100% methanol?  How much is a new tank, $30?

Hey Brad,
 
That line on the tank is called the "knit line", that's were the mold (2 piece) separates when the tank is molded.
 
As others have suggested, I wouldn't take a chance phaulking around with trying to repair it......alcoho l has a pretty low flash point & is too volatile to take a chance with. Any leaks in your engine compartment and comes close to a red hot engine part or spark and you're toast!
 
I would simply replace it for the little cost that it is. Don't play with fire!

Re-read the MSDS for Methanol.

You can get a plastic welding kit from harbor freight if you want to repair it but unless you do more than this one thing it's cheaper to replace it.
