General Buick Tech / Front Tires??
« on: July 10 2012, 11:51:28 AM »
Time for some front tires since mine are 11 years old with lots of tread but I hate the looks of them & have been saying I want new fronts for 5 years. Ordering from Tire Rack to BPG this year. Mine are Goodyear 215-60R & they seem to smallwith the MT 275-60 out back.
I'm pretty sure I want the the  BF TA 215-65R-15 since they are 26" tall. White letters IN.
Anyone else have any favourites that would look similar??
I will order them soon. They are in stock but that may change so I want to do it next week  :atbeer:

Transmissions / Learned a new trick for easy trans removal!
« on: July 03 2012, 04:47:08 PM »
This info works on a solid car that isn't full of rust spots!!
When the trans was down on the weekend it was pointed out to me how the firewall has a 1" lip overhang where it meets the body & prevents using a 3ft extension to get at the 2 top bolts. The passenger side is impossible from the under the car. Take a 5-10lb hammer & bang the lip towards the back of the body so it's pretty much flat & then your socket will slide right up for easy removal & installation! So much easier with that lip gone!

Anyone happen to know where the Front Compartment Heat-AC Blower Motor is located??
There is a Front & a rear but I just need the Front.
Mine is acting up but all I can tell from the engine compartment is that it's somewhere on the Passenger side? I don't see it but I can hear it??

General Buick Tech / AC again??
« on: May 14 2012, 10:56:34 AM »
I went out & started to try the AC to see whats up. R-12 is full & you can see that the system is trying to turn on because the fans will try to start every few seconds. Then I remembered last year at BPG the AC Cycling Switch on Accumulator needed to be unplugged & hotwired to work. When we got back i put in some R-12 & it worked fine. I changed that switch about 3-4 years ago. Just now I went to look at NOS4GN for one $21 & remembered I have a new polished Accumulator & Switch I got maybe 4-5 years ago. Totally forgot I had the switch sitting on the shelf. The problem is finding a shop to remove & save my R-12 so I can swap in the Polished parts. maybe i'll start checking around?
Anyways my question is Any ideas why the switch would go bad (if it's the issue) after only 4 years??

General Buick Tech / First real drive of the season
« on: May 13 2012, 04:42:31 PM »
Yesterday I drove to Wendy's Mom's & back which is just over 200 miles round trip.
I was only out a couple times this year for 1/2 hour cruises but yesterday was stop & go in the city & then 65-70 all the way there & back. Just outside Niagra Falls so with it all 3 lane now its a good drive. The gas guage was pegged after I filled it but after an hour it came alive again & looks to be where it should with just over 1/2 tank. The cruise isn't working for some reason but it was when I parked it last year? Probably a fuse that went with the blower fuse that melted. I just popped in a fuse & didn't clean up the fuse block yet. The AC needs a can of R-12 from my stash but otherwise it all felt pretty good. I do have a light vibration at 60mph but 65-70 is fine so I stayed there!    Think the front tires may need some attention? Altho I didn't even check air pressure since BPG so that may be an issue?? As I was driving the lighted hiway signs kept saying that Proper Air Pressure gets better mileage so maybe it was a Hint directed my way.
I never floored it but at 3/4 throttle I was catching up to traffic pretty quick!  :player:
Now i remember why I like this car so much! The Denali is definately smoother but the Buick is Fun!! Time for some fresh plugs & BPG here I come!!

General Buick Tech / Burnt Melted Fuse??
« on: May 05 2012, 12:20:50 PM »
Hey guys I not overly concerned about this but maybe it will lead somewhere for a search later. A few weekends ago when I was out burning off last years gas I had the defroster on & some heat to blow out the dust plus it was a bit cool in the early am. The AC-Blower motor 25 amp fuse blew on the way home from the Timmy's meet. It was working fine a good hour prior to Timmy's. Finally today I changed it out & all is fine but the thing was half melted into the socket? I needed a screwdriver to use some pressure to pop it out. I'm thinking maybe the blower motor is getting tired?? AC works fine & is cold. Any other ideas's??

This same fuse has blown probably 3-4 times in 24 years?? Altho never was it burnt or melted like this time?  :chin:

General Buick Tech / Power Windows??
« on: April 21 2012, 10:43:15 AM »
So are the Rock Auto power window replacements the way to go or has anyone found some that are better? The passenger side is really slow this spring & on it's way out. I'll grab a set & hopefully the new ones will be a bit faster. Just checking they have 3 Delco choices so any input on which one to get??
