For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / WTB: AC Line > radiator clips
« on: July 24 2017, 04:29:34 PM »
One thing I can't find is my A/C mounting tabs - the ones that attached the A/C lines to the radiator top...

Anyone have a spare pair?

For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / WTB: Up-pipe for stock throttle body
« on: July 16 2017, 03:33:44 PM »
Decided to finally start working on the GN, and somehow, the uninstalled up-pipe that I had got full of water, and is all rusty inside.

Anyone have  a stock or aftermarket up pipe they want to part with?

I suppose I could stabilize the rust...   :hmm

General Auto Tech / Yes, you can open 2 1/16" gauges
« on: September 18 2014, 02:18:43 PM »
Figured out while putting the GN back together that I didn't have a boost gauge. I had sacrificed mine to the son's car, an Autometer carbon fiber one that came with the car.

I found the old, broken VDO in a parts pile, and took a close look at it. It had frozen at ~4PSI , it's a -30-0+25PSI vac/boost gauge. After taking out the light bulb, I could see the bourdon tube. After poking around I "unfroze" the needle, and it moved fine. Maybe the moisture did something, I don't know. Using some tools, I tweaked the bourdon tube until the gauge was at 0.  I hooked up my Motormite vacuum pump, and the vacuum readings were spot on between the two.

I was curious about opening it to clean it, the front glass was fogged internally. After Googling a bit, it seems the old VW guys at TheSamba have experience taking apart the VDO gauges with the crimped bezels, mostly speedos..

Turns out all you need is a small flat headed screwdriver, some patience, and a few minutes to rest, as your hand WILL Cramp up.

You pry until you get the edge of the screwdriver under the crimped part, then work it around, lifting the crimp as you go. After going around a few times, the gauge will come apart. I got it apart w.o damaging the bezel at all - actually, now that it's out, I can try to fix a few dents it had from the years of use.

I plan to clean and lubricate the mech, and repaint the faded indicator needle. I won't be using this gauge - If all goes well, I will put it back in the T (The rest of the gauges are VDO) and save the Autometer as a backup.

Exploded view, with screwdriver used..

I found the black plastic lens holder is cracked, that doesn't help. I will glue/reseal this. I put the rubber gasket in the broken part to illustrate:

General Buick Tech / Dutt neck - worth it?
« on: April 24 2014, 02:38:43 PM »
Is this a viable upgrade over stock? Cost is $70 or so, then I would have to pay someone to weld it in..

Or just wait for a deal on a good used aftermarket SLIC/front mount?

IHADAV8 Playground / Finally! Installed my "new" compressor.
« on: April 14 2014, 01:37:06 PM »
I finally got around to installing the compressor I got for Christmas - in 2012.

Kohler 60gal - present from my family.
http://www.lowes.com/pd_54284-1126-VT6362_0__?productId=3370356

Install came out pretty good - I need to use some Tapcons and secure the lame wood shelving behind it. Prev owner built them out of 1"x4" and thin plywood, I need to beef them up a bit too.

I added a new 35A breaker for the 240v wiring, using 12/2 wire in plastic conduit. I had initially planned to run it around the wall, closer to the compressor, but the rear shelve support negated that option. Instead of building the conduit around the support, I just terminated it there in a junction box, then used a flexible armored cable.

Used 3 1/2"x4" redhead anchors in the floors. Unit sits on pads I made from an old tire. I added some modified used shock absorber rubber bushings on top of the unit leg, then bolted down.

The filter/regulator unit has been moved since this pic - it's now attached to the front of the right upper shelf support.

Wiring, junction box..

Where it goes into the panel.

Shitty pic - I will have better ones once I pick it up. :D

2007 F150 Lariat 5.4l, 20" factory rims,  193k - loaded.

I gave a bit over 6k for it. I bought it from a buddy of mine, I remember when he bought it new. 70% of the mileage is highway - it was his work truck for the most part. Blue Book, etc is a good bit higher..

It has new coil packs,. spark plugs, and radiator. Tires are beat - they aren't cheap - 275/55-20.

E85 is shit -

Cheap please - I don't care about looks, as long as it isn't cracked.  I will go cheap aluminum if I can't find some cheap used stockers..

I don't need caps..

IHADAV8 Playground / For Sale/Trade rant
« on: August 07 2013, 09:03:10 PM »
on some boards - it seems the people selling items all want to add Paypal fees. Why not just add to the price, and not dick around? I love having to calculate a 3% surcharge when I buy things.  :068:

Just seems petty to me. Should we pay for the gas to get the parcel to the post office?

I won't copy and paste the post - if Wendy decides to, that's up to him her.

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/i-have-a-true-story-to-tell-how-i-lost-my-gn-gbodyparts.398985/

I think one could say I am a bit biased, but if I post on TB.com what I really think, I am sure I would get banned.  :013: :013:

I would  bet Weaver has no insurance, that's why you aren't getting info - he's probably one of the most inept business owners I have ever encountered.

If it wasn't for customers covering his ass because he "supports the community" (My post about that here: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/what-do-you-think-is-reasonble-customer-service.397994/page-2#post-3248511) , more wouldn't buy from him. He hasn't gotten a nickel from me from the thousands I have spent on both TRs, and never will.  :icon_fU:

I am surprised he is still in business, actually.
I think the only reason may be the huge selection he offers to different G body cliques.
