General Buick Tech / Re: Oil Pump Question

The spring is still inside. I messaged Earl Brown who I purchased the part from. He said to reinstall and puts a couple light stakes on the edge to help hold it. Thank you for your advice.

I’m sorry, I should be more specific. I guess it is the pressure relief valve in the oil pump housing, if the filter were to get plugged.  Can I just reinstall? Could packing the housing with Vaseline for initial start have caused this? It is out of the hole at the top of the picture.

General Buick Tech / Oil Pump Question

Like you said Steve, on to the next problem. I am changing the oil to put the car to bed for the winter. When I removed the oil filter these two parts feel out. What should I do? The car has always had good oil pressure. Just drove it yesterday.

Shyer filling the tank the sending unit showed 90.7 ohms. I pulled the fuel gauge and cleaned the 3 pins. Now it reads as it should. Thank you for the advice.

I have double checked and I do have the correct one for an analog dash. I will follow your advice and check the dash and the resistance. Thank you both!

General Buick Tech / Fuel Gauge Not Reading Correctly

I have installed a Racetronix 255 LPH fuel pump and sending unit. When the tank is full it reads almost 3/4 full. Do I need to drop the tank and play with the float, or am I missing something?

Update, I checked my esc on another car and it is fine. I removed the knock gauge and no more check engine light. Sending the gauge back to have it looked at. A big Thank You for your patience and help.

If his cat throws a code, will it clear when the hood esc is plugged in or does it store like newer cars?

Also Steve, I have a friend with an 87 GN. I could test if mine is good or bad by plugging into his car. If mine is in fact bad, would plugging into his car hurt it at all?

ESC Module is on back order at NAPA. Does anyone know where I might find one?

Hopefully the new ESC will fix the problem.

All right I am an IDIOT! I rechecked all my wiring and I found that when I installed my Caspers knock guage I wired it wrong. I hooked the signal wire to the ground terminal and vice versa. So I fixed that. Still getting code 43. The only scan tool I have is the Scanmaster. So following the flow chart I do not get the rpm drop unplugging the the esc. I also don't get the rpm jump if I remove the Jumper wire at terminal E. It all seems to point to a bad esc. NAPA shows a new one, I'm ready to try that.
Do you think it would hurt the car to drive it easy until I chase this down? I want to put some miles on before I install the front clip.
