General Buick Tech / removing old EMC-10 by ATR engine moniter module
« on: February 24 2017, 12:13:40 AM »
This old system seems to be tied into quite a lot of the  electrical circuits. It was a performance addon that allowed you to adjust the timing, turn  on the cooling fan manually,it gave you a/f ratio readout ,knock warning.I would like to remove all of the wireing associated with this system before  i start to install my new 60 lb inj with turbo tweek chip. Not sure who the previous owner had install this system but i'm not too impressed with the quality of workmenship (wires everywhere). I purchased a new scan master last year and feel i dont need this old system anymore. My biggest fear is that i remove this thing, and the car wont run.the IAC probe seems to be missing(a small temp disc is now behind grill)there are extra relays on both inner fenders.I am not sure what happened to all of the OEM connectors comming from the cars wireing harness(will have to trace them all .Here is my question,Does anyone happen to know anything about this old system,or better yet know where i could get a installation wireing diagram ,so to work backwards and remove it.Is it even necessary to take it out?Maybe it isnt worth all of the work?

Any input would be great
Thanks

General Buick Tech / Older ATR/module
« on: September 25 2015, 09:45:27 AM »
I am still discovering all of the mods that the original owner had done to this car,he gave me a build list to the best of his memory, but there is a lot of details left to me to figure out,I believe that the little sensor that is mounted behind the grill in front of the rad is a temp sensor that is part of the ATR chip.I will be installing 60lb injector/chip this winter,my  question,is there any value in keeping the old ATR module for timing adj?I am still getting up to speed with the latest and greatest products avalible. As i have have only owned this car for 10 months i still have a lot to learn about these cars. I tried to list all of the mods in my intro post.Any advice or input would be great.

After posting on other forums asking tech questions i was redirected to your site being told this was the one to get all of the answers and advice i am looking for.I have had my GN for about 10 months now,it is a highly modified car i purchased from an old friend out of Toronto,he spent twenty years playing with car,it has just about every mod that i have read about and then some already done to it.the only limiting factor is the orig injectors,I plan to install 60lb /with chip this winter. My friend moved on to other hobbies and stopped driving the car 8 yrs ogo,so it sat it storage (it was started every 6 months or so)needless to say all the fluids, filters, were replaced before i ran it,i expected some issues and there was and still are some to sort out but that didnt prevent me from putting 1000 mi on it this summer.it ran very well, i took it easy on it,that dosnt mean i didnt step into it here and there. just some of the mods are as follows.when my friend ordered this car (after his 86 GN burned to the ground)he told me that he checked every option box on the order form, and after finding the codes on a web site it seems to be true.

stroked 4.1
bored, shot peened rods, blue printed, balanced, ported, polished, flow bench verified,t-3 turbo, turbonetics adj wastegate, adj fuel reg, hooker super comp headers,2.5" down pipe,3"cold air intake k/n filter,EMC_10 ATR moniters A/F and knock also allows for timing adj,Line lock,ART CARR converter (P/N 16930),B/body spindles(lower height),stiffer spring on all four corners also further lowering the car, larger sway bars 1 3/8" front 1.040" on rear,12"disc brakes on all four corners, air bags, brake booster from turbo T/A,not sure what chip is in it yet but i know it is not stock.there is probably a few things i am forgetting or havent even discovered yet.after spending a lot of time reading as much as i could find about these cars (i still have lots to learn)it seems that this car has alot more potential to find.by the way believe it or not the orig owner used this car as a daily driver winter and summer for the first several years, this car is in great shape thanks to undercoating.
