Ever been scared dizzy?
« on: April 12 2006, 12:58:43 PM »
About a block away from a house I lived in there was a house that us kids said was haunted. We were all scared of the house. One day we decided to investigate up close. I was peering through a window and I saw a transparent face looking back at me. I couldnt move, talk and I think I got dizzy. After what seemed like a minute of petrification I realized that the face I saw was my reflection.

Hey PCP58, check this out...they must be talking about the ghost of the houlka hospital.  :rofl; Did they recently build a hospital there?

"The ghost of a young Indian warrior was spotted in a Houlka area hospital, walking the hallways. This is one of those ghosts that is seen over and over around here."

Good memory! I forgot I did. I'm just amazed how scared I was....since you started talking about ghosts I though I'd get people to share their stories.

I am a stone atheist and fierce skeptic, but I have to admit that I've experienced some eerie shit that just gets filed under "WTF?". I have a few that I wont tell because they're just too unbelievable and you'd laugh. I think you'll dig *this* story, however. It's from when I was 19 years old. It's kind of a long story.

Part 1:
Between Ely and Ruth Nevada (about 8 miles or so) runs Highway 50....called "The Loneliest Road In America".

Ely is a small town, but Ruth is a ghost town of about 50 people who never leave their homes. Seriously, in the middle of a Saturday afternoon you are incapable of spotting any sign of life at all. I had a friend Josh who had lived there his entire life until he moved to Lake Tahoe when he was around 20. Well, I had moved away from there and later was driving back to visit Josh and go see my favorite area in the world. Just a few miles outside of Ruth I smelled something burning and opened the vents....sure enough, a plume of bluish black smoke filled the car (this was my first GN). I pulled over, killed the engine and popped the hood.....the second the hood popped, I heard that

Part 3:
The abovementioned length of road is in a little canyon and there is nothing out there, so naturally it's darker than six feet up a bull's ass, but that night there was a rather bright moon, so all was cool. At the halfway mark (which would later always be where it started), I heard a very low mumbling. Y'know how when something just isn't right you know it immediately? That's how it was- it was a voice that was probably 40 feet to the left of the road, but it sounded like it was 2 feet away....and low as hell. (Side note: The song "Kill To Ruth" is inspired by the town of Ruth [but not for it's ghosts, lol] and at the beginning of the track, I tried to emulate that mumbling by speaking very quietly into a microphone with my voice lowered an octave digitally). Then the voice got a little louder....and then there were a few of them. You're probably thinking that there was someone camping or some shit and I was mistaken....wi thout going into all kinds of details, please just trust me on this- that shit was not right. At that point, I was pretty damn scared and was walking a bit faster. The voices stopped. Just like that. It's hard to explain, but the silence wasn't really a good thing in my mind....to me, it just made it more certain that I was going to hear something

Hmm.. I skipped your stories because I'm on lunch, and time is money. Will read later...

Anyway, I've thought so fast that everything was in slow motion before.

:rofl; I spun a car out at about 135 or so and that couple of seconds seemed like a life time during the spin.

I had something kinda spooky happen to me. Not scary like Sylvan's story.

About 15 years ago, I worked at a door and window factory.
One of the guys I worked with was named Joe Salisbury. Joe
was a retired school teacher who was working at the plant to
subsidize his income. In an odd sort of way, he was a real cool
guy to work with. Often times at lunch a group of us would
hang out and discuss all sorts of bizzarre shit. He used to bring
in poetry for us to read. One poem in particular was called
"The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service.
hers a small piece of it:
Quote

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold
The artic trails have their loathsome tales that'd make your
blood run cold
The Northern lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest
I ever did see
Was the night on the marge out on lake LeBarge where I
cremated Sam Mc Gee.

Sam was from Plumtree down in Tennessee, where the cotton blooms and blows
Why he chose to roam the pole, God only knows.
Thats some from memory. More on this later.

Often times we'd intentionally tell all sorts of gut groaning types
of jokes. Most often Joe's response would be him shaking his head
saying "I should've known."
In the plant, they'd play oldies and easy listening music over the PA system.
I remember two songs that got played over and over again. One was "The
Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the Tokens, and the other was"Hero" by Bette Midler.
Joe would ofter complain about those two songs. Mostly that lions are
nocturnal and therefore don't sleep at night. Thus the song made no sense.
You can't argue with logic...

Christmas was coming upon us and the plant would be closing for a few days.
The last day, we all left work to a snowstorm. This was one of my favorite
memories ! The entire shop had a snowball fight in the parking lot ! There were
60 year old guys throwing snowballs! The women from the office were into it as well.
No one, and I mean no one, was safe ! Everybody was into it. I was laughing
so hard, I could hardly breathe.  It was so frickin awesome to see everyone having
such a good time.

After that everyone went home for the holiday. I had what I'd considder a normal Christmas that year. But, that was shadowed by a dark cloud upon returning to work
and recieving the news that Joe had died over the holiday. I was shocked.
Later I found out he was playing cards with his family on Christmas Eve,
and had a heart attack at the table. I sent his wife a sympathy card, eventhough
I've never met her.

continued...

At the time, besides guitar playing, I was into CB and Ham radio for
hobies. I used to BS with everybody on the radio much like I do with
you guys here.
A year later on Christmas Eve, I was hanging out on the radio with some friends.
Keep in mind, I hadn't told them this story untill this night, and I didn't
mention anything about the music played at work either. On a spur of the moment
thing, I decided to tell a short version of this story, and read the Cremation of
Sam McGee as a dedication to my lost friend. So I keyed up my mike,
told the short story, and read the entire poem. When I unkeyed the mike
there was someone out in the distance with their mike keyed up, playing
"Hero". I was beside my self ! All I could say(my mike wasn't on at this time)
was "I should've known !" Upon saying that, the mike in the distance unkeyed and went silent. I then had a strange gut feeling that Joe had just communicated
with me from beyond ! This was followed up by a few friends keying up with compliments. To this day, I still get that weird feeling when I think about it.

A few years later, my sister bought me Ted Nugent's book for Christmas.
In the book, Ted tells a story about Fred Bear where he had a paranormal experience in the studio while recording a song about him. This had inspired
me to write a song too. I recorded most of it back in November. Its now
on my to do list. It's called "Beyond the Dawn".
