General Buick Tech / Boost Issue
« on: October 07 2018, 08:20:19 AM »
This TR has other issues and I had the owner send Eric the PL file to get his opinion as well...the file's a mess. I'm not sure how the head gaskets are still in it. Anyway, leaving the line the boost is 4 psi...and 7 seconds later down the track it makes its way up to 20 psi...and takes another 3 seconds to move up to 23 psi...and then moves around from 24 to 25.9 psi to the 1/4 mark. The convertor is spec'd for the turbo...so he's removing the external gate and handing it to someone I trust for inspection. With the boost fluttering in high gear...and the KR I'm seeing from start to finish, I suspect the head gaskets are starting to leak. First things first. What's your thots on the boost taking forever to rise.

General Buick Tech / Testing Used Igntion Modules
« on: September 28 2018, 10:48:51 AM »
This is how I test used ignition modules. Listen to it break up under load. Do yourselves a favour...buy an AC Delco or if you're on a budget one from Standard. Don't take a chance on a used one...unless it revs out clean at the track. I've also had the car go flat on its face when it hit high gear with a bad one. This vid is from a Mix and Match at my home track. Note it's empty...you've got the track to yourself...jus t like it's gonna be tonite. No waiting...roll in and go.

General Buick Tech / Puck Sealing
« on: September 16 2018, 01:44:31 PM »
While the engine was out this year I swapped in a new exhaust housing...cuz the other one was pitted to hell from the race gas on the flange affecting puck sealing. I smeared orange silicone on the puck this week and mocked it up to port the wastegate hole. What I found is the puck was sealing no more than a 16th of an inch around the 4 to 5 o'clock mark. I'll assume Precision drilled the hole a little off from my old exhaust housing. I took the DP to a local machine shop this week and had them drill the DP flange holes slightly larger. I was able to move the DP towards the right bottom corner more. Checked it again for seal...and I had a full 1/8th inch sealing at the 4 to 5 o'clock mark. If you ever swap exhaust housings with the same manufacturer check it. Don't assume the hole is drilled in the exact location as the previous one.

A quick thanks to Dan Keller for supplying the new housing to me free of charge.

General Buick Tech / AFPR Question
« on: July 15 2018, 12:51:45 PM »
My car is done...and we rolled Dans GN into the shop. This car has cool guy stuff that has to go. First off. The AFPR is an Accufab...and has a fancy push lock adapted to it with a thin hard plastic hose. Vacuum being pulled from it doesn't feel as much as from my car. Fuel pressure is adjusted to 43 line off...and reconnecting the hose it stays at 43. Is the diaghram fubard...is it not getting enuf vacuum? I'm heading back today to load my car up and I'll find out where the vacuum is being drawn...and I'll find out how much with my vaccum gauge. I'll take some pics as well and post them.

We're swapping the fuel pump on it later today when the heat/humidity dies down...as we don't know how old it is...and seems fairly quiet when you turn the key on...compared to mine.

General Buick Tech / AFPR-Kirbans vs Accufab
« on: June 14 2018, 04:46:48 PM »
I have a stock GN I'm picking up for an individual this Saturday...who will remain anonymous...fo r now. Which AFPR do you guys prefer? Kirbans or Accufab. I had a Kirbans on my car 15 years ago when I bought it...and it died about 7 years ago. I've been using an Accufab I bought from Jason...with zero issues. Let's hear it. Which do you guys prefer?

A street chip from Eric and an AFPR is going on the car right off the hop.

General Auto Tech / 2004 GMC/CHEV 2500 Front Brake Rotor Question
« on: June 14 2018, 04:40:35 PM »
Okay, slapping a pair of new front brake rotors and pads on my 2004 2500 Silverado. A1 Auto has a vid on YouTube of using 2 M10x70 bolts threaded through the rotor to get them off. Anyone had any difficulty getting them off...as they should just slide off...or did you require the bolts to get them off. I stopped by a specialty bolt/nut store we have in town and grabbed the bolts.

There's a braided ground that runs from the firewall to the transmission bellhousing. What the heck does it ground?
