Title: MAF Testers And Earl Step Inside
Post by: Scoobum on August 29 2017, 07:03:03 AM
I know Earls tests MAFs more than he surfs porn...so he may be best suited to answer this question. What's the highest quality brand of MAFs we can get in regards to LT1, LS1 and Z06.

Well, your first sentence is incorrect.....

Personally I like the LS1 3.5".  They aren't as easy to find as the  plastic ones but they plug right into the Translator without any other adaptersl AKA more places for potential problems.

Even it it's adapted to a 3" MAF pipe, the 3.5" is a major upgrade.   I measured the actual flow area of both a few years ago and the LT1 was only 60something percent of a 3" pipe.  The 3.5" LS1 was in the high 80's.   That's a major reduction in flow restriction.  And we all know that pumps work best when they're pumping, not sucking.

With only 14.7 pounds of pressure to start with every inch of pressure drop is power and efficiency that's just pissed away.

Earl...what brand of MAFs would you recommend? I run a plastic Z06 I got from one of the locals years ago. Brand unknown.

Earl's the bomb man.....sold me his own personal LS1 MAF off his car cause I was hunting for the older aluminum style one. Let's just say I had to make some fuel adjustments along with the AEM 3.5" cone filter, the 60 is pulling some cfm!

GM period.  The only other ones I know of are Chinese copys. I only know of one in use on a Buick and the guy that had it got a bad one.

You can tell if they're fake because the aluminum casting doesn't look like shit. lol

With the plastic ones I have no idea, I don't mess with those.  Right now I can still manage to find both sizes of the aluminum ones and I'm happy with them.
