Title: Fred the Donut Baker kicks the Munchkin box.
Post by: Recklessrob on December 28 2005, 12:04:47 AM
Ol' Fred passed on today. You might remember him
from the Dunkin' Donuts commercials for the saying,
"its time to make the donuts !". :prayer:

I do remember him! SNL spoofed him. It was vicious, I think Jon Lovitz did it.

Kind of a shitty thing to be remembered for.

I think so.....I'm sure that he and the "Where's the beef?" lady are hanging out trading stories in heaven right now.

I thought he died a while ago, I guess that was mr. whipple or the maytag guy.  I used to make the donuts when I was in high school, talk about a shitty job.

Making the donuts couldn't have been that bad of a job.
Working at a drive through car wash in the dead of winter,
is a job that sucks. Probably the worst job I've ever had.

I heard you on the winter washing jobs.  My first job was washing cars for a chevy dealership and we washed every car on the lot outside everyday.  In the winter you would see the soap bubbles freeze instantly on the car.  At least the super chapped hands prepared me for my next job--Dishwasher. :jerkit;  Making the donuts was kind of fun until you had to flip them while floating in 400 deg oil and once in a while your pinky would touch.

The car wash gig really sucked. We used to used a big soft bristle
brush to initially scrub the cars down. Then we'd spray them with
pressurized warm water. After than we'd send them down the tunnel.
The problem was that the doors are open on both ends and the sub zero winds
would rip through. Cars would be lined up to the street waiting to
go through, so you'd have no time to stop and take a break. I used
to use a claw hammer to chip the ice from my pant legs just so I could
walk. Heaven forbid somebody would loose an antenna or a mirror. Then
you had to stand in the freezing cold and listen to them bitch at you
like its your fault.
That sucked !  :finga:

I pumped gas at a CN Brown in Rockland, Me....the only time full service gets all that popular is when it's freezing or pouring.

I raked blueberries in Alexander, Me....occasion ally, you have to stop swatting the bees from your purple arms and legs to take a look out for bears.

I worked construction clean up in Santa Fe, Nm.....it's great when the guys making 3 times as much as you are throw garbage right at your feet.

I worked the oil rigs in Currant, Nv.......shock ed, burned, bruised--at least it's thirty below out so I can't actually feel that I'm on fire until the garment is completely engulfed. lol

I waited tables at a pizza joint in Puyallup, Wa....since it's mandatory in Washington to pay wait staff at least minimum wage, who cares about tipping?! Hooray!

I assembled/wave soldered circuit boards in Longmont, Co....staying awake in a seated position for 14 hours shifts is easy.....if you're on some kinda drugs, or something.

I made those custom-formed bug shields in Longmont, Co....who cares if I've got sores up and down my arms and legs from the ovens and it's 95 degrees in here? At least I'm making .15 cents an hour more than the fools downstairs.

I did telemarketing in Albuquerque, Nm....try spending 8 hours a day trying to get people to buy those "I support the firefighters" bumper stickers for $75 a piece. I got fired for laughing at someone's name, the system dialed me up a woman named Virginia Shitt.....and you HAVE to call them by thier full name.

....well, that's about a year's worth of jobs back in my traveling days....but I'm tired of typing.

Back when I was in school, I worked at the same garage that I
work at now, but for the previous owner. I was a gas jockey then.
I worked on a farm for about 3 years. I've had a number of jobs, but the car wash was the worst by far. It gets even worse than what I've mentioned about it.
Sylvan, you spent alot of time in ME. That should be punishment enough.

Ohh yeah, I forgot to mention. I also had a telemarketing job.
I only lasted 4 hours at it another great but long story...

Those jobs suck when you're working your way up, but really blow for the people who have reached the end of their rope.  There is always one older guy at these jobs who has become a lifer.  That's the guy whose story you don't wanna hear.  Sylvan, laughed my ass off about Virginia Shitt.  I wonder if she prefered shit or shitty?  We had a guy in high school whose dad was named Dick Beiter(poor bastard).

Nope, I had a psychotic g/f at the time who didn't let me talk to other people. Seriously.
