General Buick Tech / Ball Joint Help
« on: February 14 2014, 04:42:52 PM »
So my question is.

How do I press in the upper control arm ball joints? Do I just hammer the sleeve in and then slide the ball joint in and tighten it? I assume that if I hit the sleeve in through the hole it will bend the metal?

Or am I going about this all wrong and the sleeve is on the bottom and you just slide the ball joint through the hole and button it up?

Sorry If I'm using the wrong terms.

Thanks, Justin

Is the paint only for fabric or could one spray the whole bottom of there car with it? It would be interesting if a heavy duty version of the product was made!

General Buick Tech / Engine break in
« on: December 05 2013, 03:47:22 PM »
So .. I've read lots of different things all over the place and most people say a hard break in is the best way to break in a new engine. pulling through the rpm bands in each gear and then motor breaking the car back down to speed. repeating this process at least 9 times. Changing the oil and off you go? I guess the reason for the hard break in is to seat the pistons rings properly as a soft break in at constant rpms will make the rings seat wrong and the engine will have blow by until you need to rebuild it next season from a shity break in.

I want to know what you guys think.

General Buick Tech / Could a Turbo Buick handle a 20 Lap race at WOT?
« on: November 29 2013, 04:50:04 PM »
I was told that these cars can not handle WOT in fourth gear due to the increased load on the bearing? Can these cars handle anything more then a 1/4mile blast? Like lets say in terms of a highway roll maybe from a 40 mph wouldn't you need the fourth gear? Or is this only true when the lockup engages and try's to lower the RPM at WOT? I'm not sure if I'm making sense with this question but maybe someone will know.

General Buick Tech / Cam sensor issue?
« on: October 31 2013, 08:23:51 PM »
Has anyone ever heard of a cam sensor that wouldn't spin the oil pump? How would this happen? I've seen a few threads about this issue but what would cause this in the cam sensor to not provide the drive for the pump?

General Buick Tech / Cam question
« on: October 18 2013, 11:00:38 PM »
I found a engine built by a local builder that has a decent Turbo Buick reputation. The motor seems to be a very good deal and has everything I want. The kicker is the cam is very radical for anything I'd want to do.
The cam is a hyd. roller .496/.496 /258/258/ Comp cams . Hyd. roller Comp lifters and a Harland Sharp roller rocker shaft system. What would a TE44 and a 10 " PTC 2800 stall be like with a cam like that? would it better to disassemble and drop in a 206/206 roller? The motor it's self is setup to run hard maybe a 10/9 second capable motor. But I want to just run in the 11's. I want this motor because it is a very good deal and I couldn't build anything close to that for the price he wants.

General Buick Tech / No 1st gear shift?
« on: September 27 2013, 10:11:08 PM »
So I'm wondering if a TV cable adjustment is in order on my car because I cant pull the shift lever into first gear. Also can the TV adjustment limit or determine how much RPM you will get?

General Buick Tech / The great wall of 4200-4500 rpm
« on: September 11 2013, 09:22:03 PM »
So, I've done lots to my Turbo T and it runs and idles very well. With exception to the tap the car makes at hot idle... Anyway the point i'm getting at is the car will not go over 4500 rpm. The knock gauge will come on strong or it will buck back and even with out knock it wont get over 4200-4500. I'm planning on getting I rebuilt cam sensor as a first resort and if its not that i'm starting to wonder if a wiped cam lobe can cause this type of issue. What RPM should these cars shift at?
