Title: Happy Birthday, John!
Post by: Steve Wood on January 06 2019, 05:21:17 PM
In memory of a Canadian that had the sense to become an American and avoid all those taxes and tariffs!  Happy Birthday, a week late, John Garand!  The father of the greatest battle rifle of the 20th century

If my dad were alive he would certainly agree. Is that your rifle?
My dad actually believed the M 1 was created though a combination of Divine Intervention and John Garands faith.

Yep mine. Original IHC from 1953. Barrel is tired but still shoots well.

I have a beautiful  Springfield 03 from 1943 that is great condition but my shoulder gets tired after a box of shells LOL

Did not even pay sales tax on this one :)...Normally, sales tax around here is 8.25%

One of the guns I've actually shot!

...I should change that - I haven't shot Steve's M1, just a friend of a friends.

The real question is how does it work on the rattlers and coyotes?

No, I bought  it three or four years ago. I just saw it in my safe the other day and decided to go outside and put a couple of clips thru it.

It would definitely be Overkill for varmits that small

Lol I know - it’s basically a semi auto 30-06 right?

yes, it's 30-06 and it's not bad at all to shoot because it is gas operated.  the 03 is also 30-06 that is a copy of the mauser action and is bolt action...no pad on the butt of the stock and it gets old quick these days lol  I have an 8mm Mauser which hurts more and some Mosins which are the Russian equivalent to  30-06 and they all smart...one does not realize how much those rubber butt pads do until one shoots old guns with a metal plate on the butt
