Who's got the best cash back credit card?
« on: August 23 2019, 06:42:28 PM »
Right now my main card has 2% cash back on everything. And my Suntrust bank CC has 5%, with a 25% kicker, on gas and groceries (turns out beer isn't ''groceries''...   damnit!).. so 6.25% in total.

Pretty sure I can't beat my bank card, but there's got to be something out there better than 2% for normal purchases.

American Express has one that looks good on food but my local grocery store doesn't take AmEx.  Which sucks because I think that one would cover beer.

I'm way to irresponsible to have a credit card. I'm a Dave Ramsey follower.

I don't use them for the credit. I earn 2.25% on my money that month while the bank lets me use their money for free.

....then pays me to use that free money.   :D

We funnel everything we can through cards, and they are paid in full every month. The percentage back grows quickly and the big kicker is, the card providers let you use the cash back toward $25 gift cards @ $20! Think creatively - we paid our car down payment with our credit card and got paid to do it, and then paid the card with the cash after we got 30 days interest on it.

Now only if I could use them for my prescriptions and legally pay the credit card with our HSA......

The big thing imo is customer service, we could have better rewards but at the rate cards are compromised it's nice to work with a company that has our back.

I'm going to let you in on something, know your banks policy on compromised cards/identity theft. The policy defines who is responsible for the debt, the bank or the customer. There are shady institutions that put it all back on the customer. Debit cards can be a huge risk.

I don't even carry a debit card.  I had to get one issued so I could use it for FB messenger to deposit into my checking account.

I'd gladly take a $25 gift card for $20 in rewards. That's only a 20% bounus, but it won't be seen by the IRS as income.

With my bank, I can use my cash back rewards to buy gift cards, deposit it into an outside account, or deposit it into an account at that bank.  The bad part is I only get my 25% kicker if I deposit it into my Suntrust account.   (IE 'subject to capitol gains tax).    I wish they'd just turn it against my balance.

My 2% card can only be deposited into my paypal account.  Which I get 10-99's on so it's DEFIANTLY subject to ''self employment income'' so the IRS just flat out rapes that money.      It also doesn't help that those assholes think every dime I bring in is net profit.    I have one more obama year to get those jerks off my back, then I should be good.

Then again, I don't know what I'd do with any gift cards outside of eBay.  I'm one of those oddballs that only spends about $200 a year at Wal*Mart.

I always try to pay right after the cutoff so I get almost 2 months of grace period.  I do get Canadian tire money on the one card! :icon_lol:
