Thermostat install

(1/1)

1KWIKSIX:
Any suggestions on the best way to change thermostat with the least amount of coolant spillage?

I’ve got to change out my T-stat & am running GN1’s aluminum upper coolant pipe in lieu of a flexible rad hose so it’s a bit trickier.
Any suggestions to minimize spilled coolant would be greatly appreciated

Scoobum:
Dave, with the amount of time you posted here and over there, you coulda slid underneath it and pulled the lower rad hose loose and let some antifeeze out of it, swapped the thermostat and been doing burnouts up and down your street.  :atbeer:

Just a Six?:
Open up the "petcock valve" on rad & let some coolant out with no mess to clean up.

1KWIKSIX:
I’ve drained some fluid outta the rad via the petcock & removed the upper hose connection at the radiator .
Will attempt to use my vacuum pump to drain inside the rigid upper hose before removing at the intake .
Am expecting a “gush” of coolant outta the manifold once I remove the thermostat .
Will have a bunch of rags stuffed around it and some drain pans under the car to catch what drips down .

Thanks for your suggestions Scooby & David 👍
