Title: Alternator question
Post by: gusszgs on November 16 2016, 08:50:43 PM
Hey guys.
I'm getting a little suspicious of my alternator's output. Seems pretty good when car is first fired up cold. It's in the 13.6-14.0 range. But after driving awhile the volts seem to creep down to the low 13's, and yesterday while I was out I seen the voltage flickering between 12.8-13.2 range.
This was at dusk and I had the parking lights on as well.
Is this an acceptable range when hot? This is the stock factory unit.
At the track, on my logs from PL the voltage is just shy of 13v at WOT........12. 8 range. TIA

Jim

As Steve would say, check it right off the Alt & see what you get. SM & PL readings could be lower from old factory wiring. Wow, I did learn something after all these years!

That is about where mine is, never been a problem on the street or failed to keep the battery charged. I expect the racers will say you need more omph.
