General Buick Tech / Is it possible?
« on: October 30 2012, 06:38:05 PM »
Hey guys, car drove fine and all, but when i remote started it today at work and let it run, when i got in the car a code 42 was set. Is it possible that the remote start caused this?  Just curious.  I got home, reset the ECM, and it went away and the car appears to run normal.

General Buick Tech / Front suspenion work
« on: October 17 2012, 01:38:11 PM »
Hey guys, my steering wheel has a lot of play in it since i had the car(i thought all old cars had play in the wheel).  Anywho, here of late, my has been shaking at certain speeds, and Im starting to think that I need to do some work on the suspension.  I know for a fact that I need springs because someone said something to me a while ago(car wasnt running at the time so i ignored it). I need to know what I should purchase so I know Im safe on the road. Please keep in mind that I just spent a lot money getting the car fixed, so my funds are limited right now. Lol. what would be the first purchase for some of you?  thanks

General Buick Tech / So, where do I start?
« on: October 14 2012, 10:28:59 AM »
Starting a new thread because I dont want to stuff too much info in one.  This thread is going to be about my attempt at WOT. Anywho, the TPS voltage at WOT checks out at 4.3 after adjusting the TV cable. I attempted WOT last night on the way home from the bowling alley. I noticed that the max boost my car is running right now about 11-12 lbs.  I looked at the gauge like WTF?? When i first installed this chip I know for sure that my car was making 17 lbs because I vividly remember looking at my boost gauge fly to 17 lbs instantly and it scared me.  Lol.  Sooo, Im assuming I unplugged something when installing the T-Stat. Going out now to find what could possibly be the problem. Keep you posted.

General Buick Tech / Proud Injector Swapper!!

Lol. Just did this today.  The job was really a breeze.  Got everything back together and the car running again.  Only ran into a few hiccups(normal for me). First thing is, the throttle seems to be sticking.  I reset the TPS to .42. Whenever im driving, the car will run fine, then out of no where the it starts to slightly pull on its on.  I also accidentally pushed in that one button(i believe its the TV cable) and now my shifts extremely early. Just need to iron those things out so i can find more things to work on.  :D

General Buick Tech / air in radiator lines?
« on: October 03 2012, 10:22:22 AM »
my mom just took the car to get it inspected since im at work. the car passed inspection, but the guy claims that there was "air" in the lines of the radiator, and if the car sits too long that it will over heat.  Im like at what temp did this happen? she says its all written down.  Im thinking to myself that his definition of overheating could be different than ours. :rolleyes;  We'll see tho

General Buick Tech / Just how exactly?
« on: August 28 2012, 10:12:08 AM »
Curious as to how I loop the oil cooler hoses so that i could eliminate using an oil cooler? I'm about to purchase a new F-body radiator due to my old one being beyond repairable. I plan to purchase an external tranny cooler next week, but i def need to run a temporary set up for now, which i plan to run my tranny lines straight into the F-body until the external gets here. I need this done today so any feed back would be cool. So, to clarify: I need to know how to loop oil cooler hoses. I was told that the threading for the tranny cooler on the F-body was an exact fit of our stock tranny, but what was located at a diff spot.

I have been researching and reading, more researching and doing more reading about diff types of alky kits and why some prefer one over the other(basically progressive vs non progressive).  My question that I have that I couldn't find the answer to: why is the knob normally setup so early to come on?  Most guys that I have read seem to have their alky start to spray at around 8 lbs or so.  I dont understand the purpose of that seeing that many of us run upwards of 17 lbs of boost on pump gas with no problem.  So with a progressive kit, i understand the functionality of it and think its a great invention(eliminates transitional knock?). I also can understand if someone is on a budget why they'd want to go another route.  Would they have to deal with the "bogging" if they didn't have the knob set to spray so early? I may be answering my own question here, but I'm assuming it's due to how high the timing is set that one would have the alky spraying so early.  Thanks

General Buick Tech / No brake lights?
« on: August 07 2012, 03:05:30 PM »
Awesome news, as my car didn't pass inspection due to "no brake lights."  Im like, hmm, thats funny, seeing how i just drove out of my garage and seen the reflection of brake lights in the window behind me.  The light in the window works though.  This shouldn't be too hard to find no?  Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont.  Just gotta figure out whats touching.  Figured I'd post as I can keep my buick buds in the loop on what's going on with the T-type.

General Buick Tech / Tranny cooler
« on: July 30 2012, 10:12:05 AM »
What up guys, just have a quick question about this external tranny cooler thats used for the install in the F-Body radiator swap.  Has anyone extended the tranny lines and use the cooler built on the F-body radiator?  I'm ordering everything now and I'm just curious if it's possible?  Need some instructions if it is possible.  Thanks

General Buick Tech / Pending....
« on: July 16 2012, 03:53:11 PM »
So, this has been on my mind.  My SM shows KR a lot more often than i would like(which is preferred 0) and it does it at the most odd of times.  Like, under acceleration, is it really possible to get 3.4 kr when you're not even in boost?  I think im going to get some teflon tape as suggested and just use the FP gauge I just bought to check the FP while driving.  My hotwire should be here on Wed. and this isn't all the time either.  sometimes i can get on it really good and nothing pops up until it shifts.  any thoughts?

General Buick Tech / what is this?
« on: July 14 2012, 05:54:11 PM »
I went and got my exhaust welded back up this morning.  I still heard a "rattling" sound, and the guy said that it "sounded" like the harmonic balancer.  Anyway of confirming this?  Would prefer to fix before it gets worse.  I could post a vid if need be.  Thanks
