i'm really looking for a set of GNX wheels. or 4 FRONT GTA wheels. they do not have to be painted black in the middle yet. do not have to have tires actually prefer none.
other then that what else do you have?
-
those gnx style rims are just awesome! I think buick knocked it outta the park with all 3 styles from 84-87.
gnx wheels are crazy expensive, but I'm sure you already knew that. I see plenty of front gta's on ebay all the time.
I understand that theres also aftermarket reproduction gta wheels that are priced decent.
I just got a chance to see the new aluminum 86/87 gn rims gbodyparts is selling and they are a very very nice fit and finish. it sucks their made in china, but, they are a nice piece anyway.
the only other complaint I would have is that the polished alum is just never gonna shine like chromed steel.
but I guess you could chrome them if you wanted to put more $$$ into them
-
I have 4 but you can't have them. :)

yeahhh i saw them wheels before anyone knew they were coming out ;)

I have them on the GN. Black paint is peeling, I may repaint, or if I decide to keep them, get the centers powdercoated.
-
that was my plan. a friend of mine does powder coating.
-
The good thing is spectra chrome, or equivalent would help on the chrome look. Easy to work with.

I liked the stock appearing GN rims from GBodyParts.com so much that I went and bought a set. Here they are mounted on my car after "missing Dave" and I went to New York to pick them up. I didn't clean or polish them before I took this picture, I just took them out of the box, had the tire shop install the tires and then brought them home and put them on the car, enjoy.

WoW! Those aluminum rims look Great Paul !
I really hadn't taken a close look at these before. What are the rim sizes (dia) & widths you got?
Brian at GBody sure did a great job with the design of them....they are more than a striking resemblance of the original GN factory steel wheels. I'd say he nailed it on the head!
Best Wishes of the Season

How "straight" and how well balanced are those?
-
i know at first they were real GN wheels that he cut and made wider.

How "straight" and how well balanced are those?
How many places even know how to do a dynamic check or even do one?
Try and find a place that even has a Hunter or a road force balance type system to tell if the rim and or tire are any good and then actually know what to do.
Then get the person to pay for the balance.
Now having said all this I wonder if they did test them ?

x2 on the road force balancing.
I use a local place Kal Tire to do all my cars. I was fighting a balance problem with a BFGoodridge G-Force Sport on the front of my GN that they were able to correct by Road Force Balancing.
All wheels / tires were done and they actuallly found one rim was on the border line of being out of tolerance for runout.
I won't use any other method for balancing from now on.
-
did not know it was hard to find in some places...

How "straight" and how well balanced are those?
Don't you think with today's CNC machining equipment they would come out quite close to spec?

Are you saying that these things are from a single billet?

I thought they were cast wheels and I have seen a lot of variance in castings....
-
The rims on the front are 15x7 and the backs are 15x8. The tire shop felt that the rims and tires balanced well, I never checked the weights, but they said all was fine.
I am happy with this purchase!!!
-
When I saw them they did not appear to be cast.
I was also impressed by the cap that comes with them. it will not interchange with the stock caps though. it snaps in, and I could pick up the whole wheel with the cap and it wouldn't come off. it also comes with lugs since the stock lugs won't work.
really really nice wheels, its just I'll have to wait and see them mounted on a gn in person to decide if I want a set.
-
I don't know what they used. I'm pretty sure one can buy wheel blanks that are not cast.
The technology must exist to make good castings
-
anyone have a MINT passanger fender? by mint i could careless about the paint. has to be dead straight 0 rust.
i also need a battery tray.

Reviewing:
Brian did use the word "cast" so I guess they are.
-
Battery Tray?
Hmmmmm........ What's this? I don't have one on my car...never knew it needed one.
Can anyone else confirm their GN utilizes a battery tray? My battery just sits on the flat battery area on passenger inner fender well.
thanks,
dave
-
why would mine be any difrent then any other gn? there is a tray the battery sits in, you have the holder that goes around the battery that tightens to hold it.
-
My battery just sits in a flat recess in the inner fender well & no tray......don't have any strap going around my battery....it's just held down with a hold down strap that bolts down to the rad support at the front and goes over top of the battery & down the back side to a slotted grove in the wheel well to hold it in place .
Maybe we're both calling the same thing by different name / descriptions?
-
Guess I've never had one. Is this what you're referring to?

Looks right to me....newer batteries don't seem to drip acid and rust them out
-
