General Buick Tech / Re: converter slip

A couple of thoughts,
190 is not hot, that's ''normal'' operating temperature. I wouldn't be concerned with that.
Do you know the fan turn on speed?
A converter operating under it's rated stall is not going to be efficient at all, I'm not sure the calc's have any bearing on anything in your example.
How efficient is the converter at 60 in third. probably better but it still won't be ''coupled''.
What is the rated stall.
just the nature of the beast probably.

My thoughts on this is:
I agree with Scotty, on most cars premium is a waste of gas.
If your car is tuned for regular,-- high test 'could'' lower the mpg,
There is a fine line between too much and too little timing, what works for 1 is not necessarily good for the other,
There are more BTU 's in regular than high test and diesel has more BTU's than regular.
Modern flex fuel vehicles can adapt to the fuel used so high test may yield better MPG's with high test but without doing the math I don't know if high test is cost effective.

General Buick Tech / Re: DS Exhaust Header Gasket Replacement
« on: July 10 2023, 12:12:21 PM »
The key is a flat surface to begin with. A belt sander [providing you have one] will knock the rust off but will not flatten a warped header.
I've tried asking a machine shop to machine a header and the price was astronomical.
And wait for them to actually do it, ''maybe'' a couple weeks.
A couple gaskets and drive the car the same day.
Just remember when using a gasket, tighter is not always better cause you can bend the flange.
The catch phrase, I used gaskets for decades and never had any problems.  :icon_lol:

I'm not sure what gasket you are using but the black graphite looking gasket will blow after 1 full boost.

The 1400 will handle high boost.

I remember being in my 70's LOL

I check the antifreeze by tasting it.

Another thing I like to do is stick my finger into the back of the fan on a running engine, that always get a reaction from people. And yes I have all my fingers :icon_lol:

Putting them and others out of work on WPA projects would be a better idea.  Maybe cheaper and more results that can be seen.

yep!

How will displacing workers help? Who funds the projects?
I will admit I don't know a lot about the WPA

I am not saying it's right or wrong  but that stimulates the economy. A trillion bucks ''in the bank'' does nothing.

I guess I was referring to campaign contributions when I said that. and get who they can ''control'' voted in.
Industry includes foreign industry, and even US has foreign holdings and it's cheaper to make stuff outside of the US , so higher profit's. All about the bucks again.
People will always buy the cheapest, that's just life. Industry in the US just can't compete.
Propping up the economy by counterfeiting money sure does'nt help either.
1%ers rule the world and the US and Canadian governments.
Like it or not it's a WORLD economy now and protected economies just won't work.

Maybe the light and wire popped out of the holder\bracket and is ''floating'' around. If so it's only a matter of time till it gets jammed up in the linkage and gets smashed. BTDT

Either 1 of these would interest me more being of retirement age

No, I meant the girl! :icon_lol:

I absolutely love the high revving sound.  Apparently, they will be making a ZR1 with twin turbos on the same motor making 850hp!
