Check engine light?

Normal for a Ford truck. Don't be concerned.;-)

Mine is "87 GN". Not very creative but it is descriptive. I had some guy come up to me at a car show last weekend and ask me what it meant???? I just pointed to the front fender. I might expect that kind of comment at the grocery store but not at a car show. It's odd that I don't see many GN's around. It's not like they're rare.

I want to change my vanity plate to "CRUZMSL" with a Veteran plate. It's what I did in the Air Force and kinda describes the car....even if mine is slow....

I'll look closer under the dash and see what's up. Thanks Steve.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I have my A/C shut off because I'm low on R12 and the season for A/C is almost over around here. I don't want to waste my last pound of R12. I have been leaving it on "vent" so I'm not sure if it would make the noise. It sure sounds like something in that area, though. I may have to hang upside down in the passenger seat while my wife drive the car, once she starts speaking to me again.... :rolleyes; . We don't have a seat belt law around here so I won't have to explain my way out of that one. I wonder if a rotten vacuum hose could cause intermitant mixer door operation? It sure is annoying.

General Buick Tech / Weird clunk PS dash????
« on: August 26 2013, 03:18:26 PM »
OK you guys, here's a problem I've had with my car and it's starting to piss me off. For a while I've had a noise that seems to come from the PS dash, maybe behind the glove box area, maybe a little lower. It sounds like it could be an HVAC mixing door slamming or something like that. I could be completely off on that guess. It seems to happen randomly. It sounds like a hollow clunk, not really metallic. I don't think it's something loose because it does it going down a smooth road. At least we think they smooth here in NH. Is there a vacuum dashpot or something that could make a hollow clunking noise. I have felt around and not found anything loose. And no, it's not something in the glovebox....I emptied it already. In fact, I did that first..... Thanks in advance....

I'll take 'em. I was just looking at my crappy rubber ones thinking it would look better w/ carpeted ones. They weren't even matched. Does Paypal work for ya?

Why don't you just make one....it's not that hard. The parts store has gasket material if you don't already have some. BTW, you should always have some.....

General Buick Tech / Re: Fuel Pressure Gauges
« on: July 22 2012, 01:05:39 PM »
One caution about liquid filled gauges. I like them because they dampen the vibration that can kill a gauge but.........

The liquid filled gauge housing is sealed, otherwise the liquid will leak out. The problem arises when the gauge body see a temperature difference. Since the gauge is sealed, the pressure inside the gauge body can (and will) change with a change in the temperature of the gauge. This can cause an errror in the reading that can be pretty significant. I have seen errors of over 5 pounds in an industrial envirionment. ALWAYS burp the gauge before using it for reference work (like setting base pressure). There's usually a black rubber push-in seal or sometimes there a plastic vent lever built into the seal. If the gauge is installed upright, the vent lever is best left open. If the gauge is attached to the end of a hose, leave it closed and burp it with the lever before reading it.

Yeah, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's scratched his head on this one. Once I figure it out I'll post something about it. Usually I take lot's of pictures when I take something apart. My memory isn't what it used to be. :-)

So the part that clips into the roof isn't centered in the clip..

It appears centered, but slightly angled.

43
Are the offset differently depending on the orientation? Can you put the lips in the trim and position them without inserting them in the roof to check the position of the metal trim?

The clip fits into the trim piece both ways. There is not a lot of difference but it appears the trim might be tilted slightly if you get it wrong. I can probably figure it out after a bit of trial and error but it would be better to get it right the first time. I'm hoping one of the headliner pros will chime in and make it easy for me. I'm essentially lazy. But not so lazy that I can't waste a day replacing my old headliner. I should be replacing the HG on the old Subaru instead so I can sell it.

Yep. The arrow head goes up through the slot, but the bottom "T" part has two different ends. One end is flat and the other end is forked. It's not visible in the picture because the "fork" end is behind the arrow head. Which end points toward the front of the car?

General Buick Tech / Re: Stock Timing Chain Replacement
« on: July 31 2011, 11:43:56 AM »
I didn't see a picture of it but I originally bought a roller type chain for my car but later bought a flat link style so I could re-use the stock style tensioner. I have new plastic wear parts for the tensioner. One of these days I'll change it out. Hopefully, it will be this winter. I don't take my car to the track anymore. I drive it to a couple of cruise nights and that's about it. It doesn't mean the original one won't crap out anyhow. The last nylon timing sprocket that failed on me croaked idling at a stop light so there's no guarantees.
