Cracked Header!!!
« on: October 08 2006, 05:21:21 PM »
What problems are caused by a cracked header??  I am obviously a noobie but was curious cause I saw a post where someone parked the car until the header was replaced, is it that serious??  Any help is appreciated :newbucket1: .

Unless it is really bad, you can drive it.  Max performance and turbo spool up speed maybe affected.  If you have a scanmaster you can check your BL's to see if they are within their control range (90-150).  Ideally they should be in the middle like around 128.
Champion Irons w/T&D roller rockers, TA-61 turbo, 206/206 Comp Cam,  57 lb/hr Siemens Injectors, 3000 stall PTC, PTE Plenum w/RJC Power Plate, 70 mm Accufab Throttle Body, RJC 325 Megacooler, TurboTweak 5.7/ Alky Control w/M1 methanol, 23 psig on the street, Puddn' Power engine, Borla Exhaust

Lesser performance and that embarrassing 'ticking' sound. No fun. I've got an ATR replacement on the driver's side and I'd reccommend them if they weren't out of business.

I drove my car with a leak. I know it messes with your o2 counts...makes them read low and adds fuel which makes your oil smell like gas or something.
Save the bumper fillers!

Fixing my cracked header made a WORLD of difference on bith TR's that I have owned - the tough part is finding someone good to weld them. It's thin, cheap stainless, so they have to have a steady hand so to get a good seal, and not burn through the material.

Get is fixed, NOW, you can;t tune the car correctly w/cracked header(s).

(Check your passenger side too!)

Also make sure its the header and not just
a blown out gasket. That happened to me a few months ago.

Thanks for the tip on the gasket!!  I will get it fixed as soon as possible.  I heard it causes alot of problems dealing with boost and tuning so I guess my buds were correct.  PS Thanks for the kind words guys and glad to be aboard!!! :atbeer:

Hazings should only take place in the playground or shoutbox. IMHO.

With as few real tech threads we DO get, try to stay out of them unless you have something constuctive (and related to the topic) to say, Phil
