Broke down last night

Went to the track last night to watch some races, once I left the track I get on the highway and taking off normal , went thru first gear into second so I give it a lil gas to get to 55 mph because traffic was coming , made about 2 psi of boost then I hear a loud release of pressure and the car kills. Pulled over and the car doesn't start and spins over very easily like there is no compression. Had one of my friends check the rocker and they are not moving. Timing chain must have broke.

If you havent replaced the nylon coated sprocket, it probably deposited its nylon into the oil pan.

Wow, that's a bad day. I wonder if, seeing as how the chain is still threaded over the cam sproket, that the cam gear stopped rotating almost the instant that the chain snapped, leaving it in it's current location? I would think if it rotated much more the chain would have been pulled down off the sprocket. Maybe that would be an indication of contact causing rapid deceleration real close to the instant the chain snapped.


Whatever it was, sorry about your luck. Hopefully that was the only damage and you'll be back on the road soon

That chain had to be defective from the factory. What brand is it?

Picture looks like the rod cap broke. It had a stroker kit in it. Webber built the engine. Has not been run very hard for what it is

yeah, this seems to be a freak accident...my first guess was a broken crank....cam lobe was hammered by the rod...pic thru the lifter bore shows cap is hammered...cra nk seems to turn all the way end to end when it is turned

Damn thing was running easy 11.0's with a stock dp and TE60 turbo at low boost....guess when the pan is off, we will see all the damage

Keith is wondering if the 3.625" stroker crank would allow the rod shoulder to hit the lobe if the chain broke first....I know the rod can be close to the lobe if the lift is enough because some strokers require a small base circle cam.  I guess it is a question for Paul or someone else experienced with stroker cranks

I spoke to Weber Power Products this morning and said that clearance will be a factor if the chain breaks, they asked me to send pictures to them for evaluation.
