IHADAV8 Playground / I'm back
« on: June 17 2020, 03:55:55 PM »
Long story.  My company of almost 17 years got aquired last year by a competitor.  Prompted me to look around a little and I landed at AMD.  Finally got a salesman to give me a laptop so I didn't have to use the corporate one and restored all my passwords.

For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / T-type decklid emblem
« on: July 17 2018, 10:05:47 AM »
Got the regal back from paint but the broke the decklid emblem.
Remember on the T-types this is the one that says 3.8 SFI TURBO but it's an all chrome version not black on the sides like the hood emblems.  Anyone have one before I pay out the nose for a NOS version.

I need the one on a T-type trunk lid.  No black on the sides.

General Buick Tech / Strange Scanmaster Readings
« on: May 04 2017, 07:02:20 PM »
I pulled the TR out of hibernation last week for a couple of cruise in's this past week.  curiously I was seeing some light KR at cruise with no load.  Intermittent 0.1 degrees.

Last night it got worse.  0-23degrees now I'm sure it's not real because 23degrees would be rattling like a can of marbles

But also random readings on the AT, IAC,

And an intermittent MAL 25.  (That may be consistent with the AT bouncing around)

Hoping that reseating the powerlogger would help.  We shall see.

Seems like after that the next step is one of the 5V sources from the ECM. I think ATS and MAF are on the same feed.

General Buick Tech / Motor oil
« on: September 28 2016, 08:37:39 PM »
So I came across this post somwhere else warning everyone to stay away from Dollar General motor oil  Which kind of inspred me to take a look.

DG SAE 10W-30 is actually SF rated with lots of zinc and should work great with Flat tappet cams

Here's something I did a few years ago that worked out well.  Made the pull straps useful

The problem is that the pull straps are attached with a sheet metal screw right into the upper door bar.   If you use them the sheet metal gives and the screw comes loose.

There is a solution.  Takes a little work and a nutsert kit.

Nutsert is like a pop rivet that expands in place and gives a solid threaded surface.

Drill the holes out, the hole size is whatever is recommended by the nutsert you're using.  Doni't go bigger

Pop the nutsert in the hole and lock it down.  Give it a light smack with a ball peen hammer to set the kurls and the thread a bolt into the nutsert to seat the threads firmly

Finish off with a bolt
