Not a hijack at all..

Don't worry about it until you pull it apart.

It's a bitch from what I see, but looks like you cuold just cut and weld in mild steel repair panels.

  • Don't let GBODYparts do the work
  • Remove the interior
  • disconnect the battery

:P

I will be doing the same repair on my 87 T, and I am sure not looking forward to it either.

Clay - given two shells, one hardtop, one T-Top - would you want another T-Top car?

if it was me? hell yeahh but i would just hire a new body guy thats into fixing cars instead of burning them.
i have owned another T-top car and lost the rust fight. yet i picked up another T-Top car with the same issues but i intend to win this fight or drag it for as long as possible.
no better feeling dan pulling off the tops and going for a drive
Most talk about having thick skin but thats just BS.
This damn attitude of "you didn't listen to us/me now you should burn in hell for it" really sucks.

I agree about pulling the tops off and riding, but this is going to cost me a lot more than what I expected.  Initially, I knew the plates where shot, but the guy said he could make those. But the shit is rusted down so bad. I'll post up some pics when I get home and start another thread. I just want my car back.

Some cars, and some women, it just never ends!

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

Before this ordeal with GBP I would say yes to another T-Top but not now.  For most of its life with me my car slept outside in the driveway.  I've sinced moved and have a garage to keep it in.  That makes me think that I'd have a fighting chance with T-Tops now but with GBP being the only place to acquire those stainless parts should you need them I'd rather do without them.

I just checked the price on those pieces..... :hmm Im between a rock and a hard place because we didn't know how bad it was UNTIL we took the shit off. T-Top parts are damn near IMPOSSIBLE to find, and its insane that the T-Top components will cost me almost $1k in parts, with no more than 30 lbs in total weight. I really want to get rid of this car, but admire the WH1's. :(

Good point. No one else makes replacement steel panels? Are they that hard to cut?

Phil, you can always convert the car to a hard top.  You just need a good regal donor roof, and they aren't that hard to come by at the older yards.  I actually know somebody local that could hook you up.
In reality, because of the rust and leak problems usually associated with t top cars, you may actually increase the value of the car.
You would just have a good  reputable and experianced body shop to do the swap for you.
When I'm in Rome, they do as I do

Hey Supersix, there are a couple of pieces that have a lip on that requires a soft ninety degree bend. Soft only because the piece is also angled. Weird to explain via keyboard. Im goin through my options now. Keep you all posted.

Maybe we need to get something together as an otpion to getting your shit burned to the ground by a moron that thinks he can weld.

I wonder how many beers he had before welding?

Lmao. I'm looking into cutting some corners here.  I dont drive my car in the rain anyway. I was thinking of purchasing this http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=46_22_23&products_id=1837&osCsid=07be55052ed4a2b4252d40644ca135c9 and also http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_info.php?cPath=46_22_23&products_id=57&osCsid=07be55052ed4a2b4252d40644ca135c9 and have the guy make the other two plate. I can't believe the price of that stuff though.

The sad fact is that Brian is the only one that's reproducing body parts in most cases for our cars. The only other guy that really makes anything for them is in Canada and all he makes is the mounts on the bottom of the car for the body bushings. The rest is exclusive to G body. :O
And remember, when dealing with children, silence may be golden but duct tape is silver.

Just figured it out!!  Im going to buy the header panel for sure, but that's it.  The guy doing the work said he would fab up the rest of the pieces I need. Told em I'd rather pay for material and his labor vs paying online for them. Said he'd take care of it! I'll keep you posted, as I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
