I don't think he wanted to risk it.  It was a city marked truck.  Natasha started the formal complaint process today with a visit to City Hall as a follow-up to a plow driver who was displaying aggressive behaviour toward her on Sat while loading our daughter in the Colorado - proper channels and all that.  But, this is one of the worst managed and corrupt townships in Ontario.

Well, they keep reassessing us up, twice in 5 years so they pull in tons of money here. However our elected municipal officials are pretty responsive and fight the bureaucrats on our behalf.

What does it mean when they reassess you up? Is them raising the taxes.

We have " market value assessment"  Taxes are mill_rate x property_valua tion.
Used to be you would get reassessed when the property sold or once in a blue moon.
Now we have rich immigrants and and DINKS/YUPPIES pushing up the surrounding prices and the assessment folks jump on it quick.
One gets these "congratulation" letters -your property has been reassessed, yes we know it is a big increase so we will phase it in over 3 years. I don't think the first one was fully phased in when the second letter came.

Told my boss I need a big raise- but he can phase it in over 3 years.
Didn't go over so well....

When you say 'immigrants', are you talking about all the people that
moved to Canadia from Murica after Trump was elected?
Save the bumper fillers!

Do you have any recourse to deny or defeat the assessment going up? Or do the sales of homes in your area dictate the rise in their valuation?

You would have to prove you house was worth less than their list of "comparables".
Some municipalities have adjustment plans for seniors, The income tax system gives you a bit of a break if your taxes are way disproportiona te to your income but its got to be pretty bad before it kicks in.

We have the same problem here!  I think they should do the same thing as Vancouver does.  If you are not a Canadian citizen or the house you own in Canada is not your primary resident, then you should pay more taxes.  Immigrants are driving up the prices of real estate and pricing Canadians out of their own market.  Got my pay stub today and I took home 1/2 of my gross pay, then I have to pay taxes on everything else I buy! :013:

Good thing the winter season isn't that harsh in Vegas.
