GN Road Racing

Any suggestions on the first steps in making a GN into a road racer?

I don't wanna be lazy or one of those typical bulletin board snobs that say look in the older posts... BUT do a search under my user name at TBS.com and you should find quite a bit that I have written over the years over there.

If you have more specific questions I would be more than happy to answer.  

I would start by upgrading the braking system.  I don't know what improvements have been made in this area for the GN (I suspect not much) but at least get bigger rotors and then start picking off stuff as you go.

That should be good enough for braking.  Keeping in mind that you are not trying run in the Speed World Challenge Series but doing this for fun and because you some money you dont really need.

The power steering pump will need to be upgraded for sure.  I burned up a couple of those.

CRAP!  There is one major thing I forgot to tell about setting up a GN to actually turn.

Find a friend who lives close by and remember cash is king.  You don't want the Mrs. finding out about all the new parts you are getting.  So send everything to your friends house and then work on the car over there.  Tell Donna you are going over there to help him work on his car.  His wofe wont care that you are working on your car over there just so long as her hubbys car is not the one getting the new goodies.

This is a win/win for all involved.

The 87 will get the treatment, front frame rails are cleaned and half painted. It is coming together slowly. The 85 can be a driver, it has half the miles anyway. :yawinkle:

One more question, what turbo to use. I have a TA49 and a TA54. I am guessing the smaller turbo may work better as it will have less lag. Any ideas.
