Pulled IC to clean & found....
That the new turbo to IC hose already had black oil in it. I pulled the filter hose off and checked the wheel from there. Little to no in/out play, but has up/down play. IF I push up on wheel and spin I can hear the fins slightly hitting the housing and there is black oil on this side. I didn't pull the exhuast side. Guess sitting mostly for the last ten years wasn't good for it.
I'm borrowing a stock turbo from a friend (Chris from TBS) while I decide on a turbo.. I'll get back under the car this Sunday and pull the TC cover off and see if I have a stock TC..this will decide on the size of turbo I go.. Thinking of the GT3161E, GT6152 or what is this GT3255????? I already have 50lb injectors and a razor kit to support a larger turbo. Later I'll upgrade the IC to a stretch stock location..I know it's a interheater..j ust don't want to go front mount.

Mua hahaha, I knew it wouldnt take you long. Your sooo right, "the fun begins"!
What kind of fun are you having with it so far?
-
At least you caught it early before things had gotten worse,
and you have a stock turbo to drive on in the interim. :prayer: :psix;
-
No I'm not having fun...OK some fun... Yes I'm glad I had another to put on, I had 2 people offer me stockers while I decide on a turbo. Tested the TC stall last night..it's a stocker. I didn't catch the 83's turbo going out in time...it was ugly
-
I called limited talked to Chopper..he said TA49 or TE44 would be best for my car. He did not Recommend a GT series turbo. So I'm leaning towards the 44...but I have time to think about it..My trip to Seattle just got canx so I have a couple of days off...Friday night T&T...oil leak isn't to bad...thinking of going, it's 2 hours there or am I pushing my luck :dunno:
-
IMHO, calling Limit and talking to Chopper is wise. Great people.
-
I totally imagine Chopper as this rube with one huge tooth. Hence the name.
Any reason not to use the GT series turbo?

'Fun' with a TR....now there's a fantasy of mine. I wouldn't let the TC limit your choice on a turbo....heck, Pat's has some strong 12"s (2800 stall or so) for under $300. Just a thought. If'n you find other parts that ain't doing so well, ask us first....betwe en us, we've likely got an entire car worth os spare parts. If I've got anything of use to you, it's yours.

Thanks that means a lot...Wife has money, I don't..lol
I found a cam sensor for CHEAP that I'll might get too, mine is ticking. I may steal the 10.4mm wires off the 83 since it's sitting and put the old wires back on it.

And when you have a problem ask us...
so we can laugh at you and explain that we have the exact same problem and can't help you!
-
Yeah lepizzle, if Jim has a problem I'm SURE he'll run to us first. LoL.
Jim, Cruising the Coast is the first week in OCT. http://cruisinthecoast.com/

That looks real cool and fun.
-
"cool and fun" is an understatement .
it's like, every car you can imagine shows up. Cars that shoot flames, straight up illegal race cars, old tyme cars, modern cars, everyone does burnouts...peo ple line the streets and it looks like Mardi Gras, fat tuesday, Canal street in New Orleans. People come from all over America for this.
-
I am sure it is an understatement . Just wish It was a little closer. It is a 8 hour ride from our house to there. It would be cool to do, We would of brought his and mine.

Recieved to turbo in the mail yesterday from Chris Garrett..Start ed about 7:30pm or so removing the old turbo...quit at 10:30pm...turbo out..new turbo just sitting on the engine..Do you know how hard it is to change turbos without removing the bracket... I DO.. Worked on it for about 1 hour tonight when I got home..turbo is bolted to bracket and uppipe, oil line on...I quit for the night...
-
gawd Jim, take the bracket off....it's easy! I like swapping turbos. Hate attaching the oil drain.
-
TE-44
-
TE-44
No stocker..need to base line the car, then when it's tuned and running good we will see how far I go
-
o i c, well when u get a baseline, THEN get the 44
-
yah the oil line is fun
-
Jim, with what you have, I think that a stock turbo is a waste of time.
You shoul've upgraded, and base lined with the new turbo. IMHO

I could not pass up the price for the stocker..shipp ing. I'm a firm believer that you need to base line first. I won't have upgraded the injectors if it wasn't for the drive and they are the orginals. I'm still on the fence about the turbo..I have time. I have no real goal for this car. I do for the 83..I want to get booted from the track for no roll bar..a heafty goal for a carb car...
-
Oil drain goes on first...no drama.

I'd like to see that too. Just because of the challenge and that its different. :supz:

Work the shit out of that turbo!
-
Stocker is on...damn oil return is leaking..guess I should have put a gasket on it..lol
I'll fix it tomorrow..16ps i boost..going for more tomorrow and track on FRIDAY.
-
now you gotta wrestle with it again. I hate that damn line
-

It's not that hard..the bolt on the engine side is the hardest part...Waiting for it to cool off to work on it
-
The oil return line (as well as the headers) is my least favorite thing to have to do on the car....but I have to admit that I'm an idiot and never thought of doing it first like Greg said.
-
I gotta admit, after a few times I'm pretty good at getting the return line to line up. Be careful with that gasket!
-
I fixed it..had to mod a gasket from my 83 oil return line.
