General Buick Tech / I need you guys to bail me out. Lol
« on: July 01 2022, 05:50:39 PM »
Ok, so me and my cousin Charles built custom dashes, and since the completion of my dash, I think we removed the VSS circuit because I'm getting a Malfunction code 24, my mph doesn't show up on my scantool, and my TC isn't locking. Please explain what we fucked up so we can fix it. Lol. The speedometer I'm using runs off of GPS so I didn't think I'd need that long annoying cable.

General Buick Tech / Update on future build
« on: January 26 2021, 04:44:25 PM »
Hey guys, I decided to start a new thread on the build since the last thread I started is super old. The refresher on the build is as follows:

Stock 109 block. bored .20 over with a deck plate. New TA grooved cam bearings, new ARP main studs, #2 and #3 Pro-gram billet main caps, and block has been lined honed. New JE pistons, scat stock length forged rods, forged eagle crank(external balancing), new brass freeze plugs.

I just ordered the Aluminum heads already set up with the springs and scorpion rocker arms 1.65. This Friday, or possibly Monday, I will purchase the roller cam that the heads were set up for.

I will keep this thread updated with as many photos and info as possible. Stay tuned and I hope everyone is well!!!!

General Buick Tech / Is Earl still making front covers?
« on: May 11 2020, 11:21:00 AM »
Good morning gents, I'm in the process of putting together something fun, and I was in need of some assistance on a few parts. Specifically, I'm checking to see if Earl is still selling those front covers. In addition, since it's been a while since I've stopped through here, I'm having a fellow buick member local to me, Scott Keller, assemble the block for me.

Just for starters, I'm leaning towards the roller cam to avoid having to add zinc. I'm also going with aluminum heads as well. The details will be added to this thread here in the near future for the entire build. I miss you guys and I hope that all is well!!

IHADAV8 Playground / Great Buick Sunday
« on: October 17 2019, 11:55:40 AM »
As I type this, I look at the subject line again and realize it sounds like an actual holiday. Lol. Here in the Saint Louis area I'm part of the buick group/club and last Sunday turned out to be perfect. We meet once a month, and this past meeting we captured a couple of photos of the cars everyone brought. I attempted to upload a photo, but it's too large. We all met at Grafton Winery, and I can't express how beautiful the scenery was. The majority of the group showed up and we had a great time. I actually considered going to Bowling Green next weekend. We'll see though. I'm looking to buy another motor/block because I'm certain mine needs some work. If I find a way to reformat the pics, I'll be sure to add them to this thread. I hope all of you fine fellow Buick/non buick owners are doing well.  :atbeer:

General Buick Tech / Motor mounts or springs? maybe both?
« on: June 27 2019, 09:09:17 AM »
Good morning gents! There is no better place to go for legit advice and good convo than here. I just installed a new DP on my car and noticed that it sits on my A-arm a bit. I thought it was an issue of the new DP, but then I looked at my stock DP and noticed a dent around the same area. Needless to say this is an issue, so I'm wondering what needs to be done to fix this? I'm confident that the motor mounts have probably never been changed, and my springs are super shot. What do you fine gents think?

IHADAV8 Playground / Just checking in
« on: April 24 2019, 08:56:40 AM »
Good morning everybody! It's been a while since I started a thread so I decided to pull up the site and drop a couple of lines. I hope everyone is well and in wonderful health. I've been working a lot over the last 8 months and it's been paying off. I got a couple of bills out of the way to create a little spending for my Buick. Things at home have been rocky with the wife and I've learned a shit ton with this relationship with her and the Buick.    Anyway, my Easter weekend was amazing as I had a little time to spend with my car turning a couple of wrenches, went to the track "to watch" on Friday night and attended the Easter car show at Forest Park. The turnout was AMAZING as I got the opportunity to see some beautiful cars. I went with the Buick group here in Saint Louis and we had a really good time. I have more parts coming in to install on my car as well as some much needed maintenance in the very near future(within the next few weeks). I'll start a thread in the other section about that though. Have a great day guys

General Buick Tech / New parts
« on: December 21 2017, 08:56:25 AM »
So i think I mentioned that I got the turbo and converter installed in another thread on here. I had some time to finally drive the car again and I noticed that the boost would go to 11 lbs, which is cool because I had it set super low. So, I get on the highway and notice the slow spool and the struggle to maintain any boost. Fast forward three days later(last night), I had some time to check some shit out. I looked at the WG rod and it was adjusted too far. No biggie, I'll shorten it. First test pull, boost shoots up fast as shit, I let up(on it's way passed 20). I re-adjust the wg rod again, lengthening it almost back to where it was, but not too far to where it wont build boost, and I think the lowest it was spiking to was 18-19 lbs in first gear. Needless to say, I conclude that the turbo needs to be ported (THANKS SCOOBUM) seeing that I have a low boost actuator and my rjc boost controller backed all the way out. This turbo and converter pairing is incredible!! Spools just as fast if not faster than the stock setup for sure.

General Buick Tech / I miss all of you guys over here!

What up gentlemen!! Long time no speak. I'm dropping by to say what's up and update you on a few things going on with the TR. Lots of changes since I last posted.  Getting the lifters done now, as well as valve cover gaskets and every other gasket involved in that area. Also, replacing those stupid little plastic pieces that seats the rockers to the rocker arm(they're stupid because they keep breaking when I try and tap them in). Looking at the intake, the EGR passage was completely clogged up, and I'm thinking this could have potentially had something to do with my 02's not being able to stay up in 3rd gear? Also, my stock turbo is shot to shit. It has a TON of shaft play up and down, so I'm on the market for a turbo and a downpipe that I plan to purchase within the next month or so. I'm also replacing the transmission shifter cable and the the handle since the stock one turned to clay years ago. I'm excited about what is to come. Hope all is well with you all and I will post when the car is back on the road. I forgot to mention, I posted about a break issue I was having a while back, and I'm finally buying the damn one way valve and fixing it. Every time I tap the accelerator right now the break gets hard as shit. Lol

Just stopping by to see how you all are doing? Time flies as I have realized I have been a TR owner for nearly 13 years! :O  My interest is still as high as it has always been but I'm overwhelmed with the amount of attention this thing needs. Lol. Hope all is well!

General Buick Tech / smell something burning
« on: May 31 2016, 10:43:50 AM »
Last night I noticed a smell coming from the rear end of the car. I'm not familiar with posi rear ends and their function, but is it possible for it to go bad? That's the only thing that comes to mind that I can think of in the rear of the car...and this smell was definitely noticeable and smelled like a clutch..

General Buick Tech / Not again.
« on: September 26 2015, 09:16:43 PM »
Ok, so I got the new water pump on today. Went pretty smooth. Got everything back together, and went to start the car. Well, the car turned over but it wouldn't start(I did have to give it a jump). I figured to check the fuses, and I noticed that the ECM/IGN fuse was blown. Ok, I have a spare 10 amp fuse, so I replaced it. I tried starting the car up again and it didn't start.  :013:  I go to check the fuse again, and I noticed that it was blown. Really? So I replaced the fuse again after triple checking everything I could in engine bay wondering what was shorting, if anything. Key on, engine off, the fuse blew again. So now I'm really pissed. I decided to change out the control module with a known working one I have here. After doing that, I replaced the fuse again, and Key on Engine off, I noticed my scan master stayed on. I say great, it should start now. I go to turn over, didn't start, check fuse, and its blown. I plan to do the No Start Tree tomorrow, but I don't what could keep blowing this damn fuse.  :hmm

General Buick Tech / Coolant leak
« on: July 01 2015, 11:45:47 AM »
I think it's coming from the water pump, but too bummed to even look at it. Am I asking too much for my car to just operate normally? I barely drive the damn thing. Im almost sure the guy did the water pump when he did the timing chain.  Hasn't been three years yet.  :013:
