General Buick Tech / converter slip
« on: August 05 2023, 11:59:32 PM »
we have been in AZ now for about a year and a half, house is about 2/3 done and I have been driving the GN to town some. Going down the hill about a 1000 foot drop  in 20 miles car stayed around 165* up the hill 185 -190* out side temp 100* windows down AC Off not working
RPMs seem high 2000 @ 60mph, converter slip is 21% using Hughes calculator
28 in tire 3.42 ger .67 OD 60mph. And yes I have the correct speedo gears.
This seems like a lot and the reason for my water times to be so high.
Got the biggest air to air BM cooler.
Any thoughts? don't have a trans temp. Never had this in Hawaii, but temps and driving condition totally different

General Buick Tech / garage truss
« on: June 09 2022, 09:31:58 PM »
starting new garage and house ,got my permit submitted yesterday.  Stoped at the truss Manufacturing place on the way home.
Wall heights is 12 feet this will be high enough for a lift. But do I get just a standard truss or scissor truss?
I know the scissor will make it look bigger but will it be a benefit for lighting or will the flat be better, just seems  to me all the machine shops were open and the lighting was not that great. but the tool room that was flat was better. is my thinking all wrong. we loved our scissors truss house we had but I never worked under the hood and turned ever light in the house on just to hookup the DVD player.
So what would you do?

General Buick Tech / Shipping my Buick
« on: March 28 2021, 03:37:27 AM »
Will after 20 years in Hawaii I’m heading back to Arizona sometime after September.
Trying to get everything thing ready will prove to be a challenge.
1. Do I leave my nice new Gbody aluminum wheels on or put the OE on?
2. Get a valet chip or just wire the wast gate open ?
3. What other thing would you consider?
Thanks

General Buick Tech / IAC going down
« on: May 18 2020, 12:05:12 AM »
I’ve been chasing the dropping numbers for mounts started  25 down to 20 at first then 15. Spraying carb cleaner with no clear leak.Got all the way down to 9 ,keeps have residue around throttle shaft.
I changed it out with a spear I have. The one I took off has .010 play is that a lot?

General Buick Tech / Exhaust gasket
« on: November 28 2019, 11:01:23 PM »
Took the car out for a Sunday drive on a Thursday. Got a exhaust leak on driver side,TA stock replacement header so it’s got to be my FelPro exhaust gasket. On the car about 2 years.
Replace with FelPro a set of Cometic or Fullthrottle wisbang gasket?

General Buick Tech / IAC low
« on: November 12 2019, 01:26:44 AM »
IAC has always been 20-23. Tonight when I took it for a drive it started slow (more cranking than normal) no big deal. Ran good returned, home it sat for 30 minutes sweep the garage fired it up and it  was idled around 1500 for 10 seconds. Water temp was 160 flipped it to IAD as the idle came down to its 700 and IAC was 4 slowly came to 9.
All vacuum lines look good and no one appearing to leak. Got the line into the climate control to check tomorrow (I was getting more hungry than desperate to get to the bottom of my problem)
Should I pickup starting fluid or carb cleaner tomorrow? You know to spray around the intake.

General Buick Tech / HR bar
« on: September 28 2019, 02:42:15 AM »
Also, with cars that have the stock rear HOUSING, the instant center isn't in a good spot. Seems to help to keep airbags in & run them at low pressure & even side to side (with our swaybar). Something like 5psi each side seems to do the trick. The rearend tries to come up into the car, which makes it LOOK like the rear squats & is pushing down on the rearend, but it's actually the other way around. The bags will help keep the weight on the rearend for traction. If over 5psi seems to be needed, I would get our airbag spacers (HR-0350) and try 3psi or 5 psi with those. Get too much air & they work like a basketball & hurt the launch.

General Buick Tech / 60 ft blues
« on: July 09 2019, 02:55:18 AM »
will I was good with all my trying to find my cars happy spot and thought I had found consistent 60 at  3100 15 psi.
I know it has more in it with a small converter change but was happy with the 11.55 ET.
Step 2.New tires and set the 2step for 3100.and I’m good to go work on my reaction time.
Wrong off the 2 step it goes about 5 ft blowers the tires off with 5 failed try’s on Saturday trying a couple of different settings.
Yes I went from 5 year old Hoosier 28/9s to MT PBR 28/9. I figured there would be some differences (for the better I hope)but that was not what I expected.
Made 4 passes on Sunday retracing my steps.
First pass lift at 2800 10 psi some improvement didn’t spin  but 1.9,so I added .4 timing.
2ed pass 1.8 60 but 3 degrees KR on 1-2 shift removed timing even thought it was 10.5 -11 AF.
3ed pass 3000 and about 15 lb boost tires spin was slight but got a 1.77 60 I’m going in the right direction.
I couldn’t decide to add air or take out ,MT tech said add air first if it it got worse take air out.
I thought I just try for a repeat to confirm my findings.
4th try went ok tell the 1-2 shift 14 degree KR stop for the day.Engine appears to be ok think it was false I’ll get the plugs out this week and cut the filter open.

That’s how my weekend went.I run a Hellwig bar set to the stiffest setting, car leaves straight and level no drama, Do we think the bigger HR bar will help me plant the tires better?Or should I think about different shocks.or back to the Hoosier? I do like the MT at speed better
Thank you your time

« on: June 16 2019, 02:16:08 AM »
turned  the ac on and it’s not so cool. Owell, off to race track how need Ac. Switched it to vent and woo got even hotter. Stopped and heater valve is working , I think, pull off the vacuum line and valve closed, on open. Pulled the line off no change in temperature. Drove to the track windows down only to be rained out.ok drive home muggy raining,no defrost ether.
Any quick fix help? Read  the VortexBuicks section may possible be the cable behind the grove box but not convenient that’s it I’ll look in the morning before heading back to the track.
