The desktop was pokey...
« on: October 26 2014, 10:36:58 AM »
I'm kinda(ok, clam making pearls) cheap. I'm not sure I squeak when I walk but I never really listened for it.

Our cobbled together desktop that I got going after the power supply in our windows 7 machine quit had become pretty slow. I downloaded and ran some free(seeing a trend yet?) stuff to see if I could fix the problem. I searched over a tb.com to see what I could find and our good friend Dan(notacarlo, who bolted Texas against advice not to) had posted about the ccleaner. I googled it, downloaded it and ran it.

WOW , what a difference.
I guess it deletes a bunch of temp files, cookies and other non essential stuff. I also ran the part that fixes the registry. 111 errors. ran it again a couple more times to get the stragglers(about 3-4 each run until it came up empty).

Now we are screamin along as fast as an athahlon 3200+ and windows xp sp2 can carry us.

I thought it was the least I could do after they hooked me up for free to reccomend it to others.

Are there other free things to try? I tried another registry tool but all that got me was some missing files I had to search up and reinstall.

ADW cleaner is pretty sweet too.   No idea how it fixes so much stuff since it's only 1.8MEG in size
