Anyone know what brand of headers these are. Are these the dreaded Hooker headers...cuz I don't recognize these.
-
The original hookers were ceramic coated. Is there any trace of that left? They also had larger tubes than the factory headers
-
Steve, it's a guy I'm working with south of the border. Pics are all I have. He was told they're Hookers. I'm thinking the WB is to close to the bend. I remember you told me to install mine a certain distance from the bend.
-
The chip and injectors arrived from Eric a day or two ago. He went WOT with a chip that was burned for a 49...and he installed a 6262. The PL file was nothing but KR. The 6262 sucked the chip dry.
-
Steve...he has a pair of stock headers laying around. I texted him to give the diameter of both. I'll update this when he gets back to me.
-
Those are hookers Brad.
-
Thanks so much Jeremy. I'll have him bolt up the stockers he has. This car is a work in progress.
-
They spooled slower with a given turbo but they ran well once spooled. Only real problem I had with them was the o2 sensor would code 13 after I had stopped for a minute or so...then go away when I took off again. Cooled down fast. Was better without a washer under it. I guess a heated sensor would have fixed that.
A bunch of the faster cars used them.
-
Steve, here's an idle PL log. Chip is a 6.1 burned for this combo. Fuel pressure was set at 43 PSI line off.
-
you did not mention what wb and either the o2 is not getting any heat ala hookers, or the o2 is bad as it is not active
-
I used the Hooker headers for years. As Steve said the O2 went to sleep at idle but a heated O2 sensor cured the problem. Also using the Hooker downpipe cured the slow spool issues. It was a little larger then stock but smaller then most aftermarket ones. I guess a little restriction on the other end balanced things out. At the time stock headers were cracking like saltines and aftermarket ones were too expensive. Hookers were half the price. You learn to work around problems. Today I would go with TA Performance headers or stock ones if you can find them.
-
TA sells stock replacement headers.

Steve I texted him and asked how old the NB sensor is...and what brand of WB sensor, so he picked the correct one from the drop down box. Waiting on a reply.
-
Steve, the NB is new and the WB is an AEM. I've asked him to take it for a drive and record a PL log. No WOT cuz he said it had KR with the new chip and injectors. Note on the pic it has an adjustable rod. I got him to back it off...but he doesn't know the boost level. Says he can't get it to work with PL. Pump is from Kirbans and he has it hotwired. Anymore questions...as k. Just thot. Maybe the boost getting away cuz the wastegate hole is untouched...an d it's leaning out cuz of that. I had to port my 6262 twice to keep it in check. Oh, and he can't get the boost gauge to work either. We're lucky...at least he's listening.
-
Okay, he has the in car boost gauge working. Having him work on the PL boost now.
-
The log showed something around a steady 400 on the nb and the wb confirmed it being up in the 15's as I recall.
Appears to be super lean at idle and that will carry over to driving....my guess is find out why he has no fuel. Perhaps the fuel pressure gauge is a cheapie, or its broken.
Hopefully the new chip matches the new injectors
-
Steve, the chip is burned for the new combo. He's doing a writeup on the mods by the PO. Will post when I get it. Bout 15.1 at idle for AF. Post the new driving log when I get it. Will ask about the fuel gauge. I ASSUME it's a rail mount.
-
Only thing I know from here is that there is no use in driving it until he can get the fuel where it is supposed to be. I would guess it is about 6 psi low, but that is just a guess
-
I'm pushing him to put a fuel pressure gauge on the pillar like the setup I had. He has the 3 gauge pod there now.
-
I'm confused. Is this the car with Hooker headers on it, or not?
If it is, then he will have to drive it to get enuf heat on the O2, to work, so forget what I said about it needing more fuel at the moment altho I am sure it does if he put a 6262 on a chip burned for a 49.
-
1-Jeremy has stated they are Hooker headers.
2-I said previously the NEW chip and injectors are now installed and burned for the 6262. The PREVIOUS chip was burned for a 49.
3-With the NEW chip burned for the 6262 he said he still got KR...but not as bad. He did it on a whim and didn't record a file.
-
He sent me this file. I just wanted him to drive the car normally to see if the NB would wake up. He said he turned the fuel pressure up a tad. Looks like he had the WB on LC1. He has an AEM. Prolly why the WB isn't reading.
-
Looks like it woke it up. With those headers he should run a heated sensor. Guess it does not make a difference if he is using a 6.1 chip as it does not pay attention to the nb as far as I know.
With regard to the wb, Eric burns the chip to work with a given wb so it should be working if it was burned for aem. you have to set the wb in pl to display it right.
It stays at 10.0 all the way. He probably should go back on the fuel pressure some? Maybe? as it does not change, I am thinking it got disconnected
unconfuse me some. Is the current chip burned for a 49 or for the new 6262? If it is for the 49, then he probably should max out the wot fueling on the chip to get closer to a 6262
These people are getting scarier by the day smh
-
To clarify again, it's a 6.1 chip burned for the 6262. I think the rail fuel pressure gauge he has is fukd. He's ordering a new in car fuel pressure gauge. The file shows KR. I told him to park the car till the new FP gauge shows up.
I also wanna verify fuel pressure is rising 1 for 1 with boost...and I can't do that till he gets the FP gauge installed.
-
I hope the fuel gage has an isolater,

looks like the wide band was no longer working on that last long. Nothing stays 10.0 without moving at all thru out the recording
-
He had it on LC1...he has an AEM. Might be the reason it didn't record correctly.
