Help from Canadians for tv service.
« on: December 14 2018, 10:30:37 AM »
Good day eh,

This is a question for my brothers in Ontario.

I'm on Bell Satellite because I live outside of town with no access to cable.

The price I'm paying is just outrageous. It's bad because of the add ons with History, Velocity ect…

I'm concerned my internet will be taxed to the limit speed wise with my son gaming, daughter and wife constantly on their phones if I try an internet based tv receiver.

What is everyone using?

When I talk to Bell, murder comes to mind.

What about an android box?  They used to be free but for $5US/month you can have all the movies and car shows you want!

Gaming may suck via satellite due to the lag

Just to clarify, I'm on Bell for tv.

Internet provider is separate.

I use a ROKU box for all my TV.    I've found you can steam just about anything you want live on youtube.   Borrowing passwords for HBOgo, Netflix and HULU cover almost everything else except the pornhub app  :tongue

But I'm in the states. I don't know if they make a metric ROKU for the Canadia market.

I remember when I had Direct TV the porn was for all the family compared to the Canadian porn!  You have to see the Canadian porn it truly is hardcore!

Internet is pretty good but I’m a bit worried about speed with my kid killing it on Fortnite.

Can’t mess with that. He’ll lose his mind.

About 10 Mbps download without the gamer online.

About 10 Mbps download
I just checked mine and I am quite happy with 68% of your DL spd. I do not know your circumstances, but I could double mine for +$10 per month. Don't need it.The website for your son's game and the device you would consider should list the min DL spd for a reasonable experience.

I do not know if Canadian TV broadcasters are required by law to furnish content free on FM. If so you might look into SkyLink or similar.

It may sound odd, I don't have or watch a TV. This may be another thread I have little business posting in.

That's kinda slow but you can still stream TV at that speed.   It's also kinda amazing just how little bandwidth online gaming uses.

If you want to run a test, run a speedtest for a control while Fortnite is running, then try and stream Sling, HULU, or Netflix on a computer.   I'm sure one of the streaming services has a free trial you can sign up for.

So I found out that in Jan. my provider is coming out with a faster package.

Should be enough to allow Android boxes to run.

What's everyone using?

I'd like a DVR to record stuff like sports. Is that a thing?
