General Buick Tech / Knock, Knock, Whos There? Help!
« on: February 18 2016, 06:09:34 PM »
Alright guys, I finally have my car in Arizona with me! About a month in and im having the worst issue we've run into. first, and foremost, ill give you some details about the car. 1987 Buick T, 146XXX Miles, PT-51, hotwire, built trans, 60lbs injectors, vigilante TC, rjc pp, dutt neck, stock bottom end, stock heads, and even stock head gaskets. there are a few more item but i wont bore you guys any more.

The issue! I was driving home last saturday night. I brake boosted at a light by my house, did a 10 psi launch, it went well, until the scanmaster started showing knock. I could also hear the knock, which sounded more like a tapping/ticking. Oil pressure was normal. I limped it the remaining mile to my house. once at the house i began looking for the issue. It sounds like it is coming from the top end on the passenger side. Kind of hoping for a broken rocker, i pulled the valve covers. I didnt find anything out of the ordinary while in there. I started it with the valve covers off to watch for a possible wiped lobe, I couldnt really tell. All the pushrods were spinning. I pulled the rockers for a closer look. nothing out of the ordinary. I pulled the pushrods and they looked fine. I rolled them on my bench and none seem bent.

I checked the flex plate next. All the bolts were tight and the flexplate had no visual signs of cracks.

I checked the compression and all six were within +/- 5 of 120, which I think is good for how old and how many miles are on this motor.

Oil is not milkshaked. oil level is fine

During this inspection, i noticed a leak in my radiator. Ordered an fbody aluminum radiator.

General Buick Tech / Question about front tires
« on: May 06 2014, 10:16:40 AM »
What would be a good size tire for a stock wheel/stock height car. I will have 275/60-15 Mickey Thompson  in the rear. I really don't care about matching front and rear brands. 50/50 street/strip. Not looking to spend booku money. Thanks in advance.

Sent while curing depression with boost.

General Buick Tech / My 1987 Turbo T Build Thread
« on: January 24 2014, 09:24:50 PM »
Hello all! So as some of you may know I am moving to japan on orders from the air force. I wanted to get some major boosting in my system before I went because I don’t know when I’ll be back. I know I know some of you are saying “well why don’t you bring it with you?” well let’s just say that’s out the question for a few reasons. Well back to the story at hand. I want to do a lot of upgrades to my car and then when I am finished me and my dad (supersix) will head to the strip and have some “father son bonding” lol. The current upgrade list is as follows:

Pt-51 turbo
Rebuilt transmission with upgraded internals
Vigilante 2800 torque converter
60# injectors
Comp 980-12 valve springs
Rear control arm bushings
Box the lower control arms
Bilstein rear Shocks
Air bags
Nitto nt555r 275/60-15
Moog Rear springs

So that’s the list and I plan/hope to get that all done in a week or so, with some help of course. Grant it I am still a novice and I am learning. The actual build will start around the second week of March with the hopefulness that my dad and I can hit the track for test n tune. I am very excited about this and can’t wait. I hope that you guys can give me advice and help me through this awesome build.

First question and I know that it’s probably a dumb one because I think I already know the answer but will I need a new turbotweak chip?

Second question: Can you please go through my upgrade list and tell me if there’s anything I am missing/need?

Third question: what do you think i will run?

New Member Introductions and Welcomes! / New Member..er well sort of
« on: October 28 2013, 03:23:36 AM »
Hello ihadav8!  I'm Clinton and I'm supersix's son since he's been busy with his build I thought I would bring yall up to date and my future ideas on my(well sort of) 87 T. Lets see..well its supersixs car for now lol and ill take ownership around April 2015, hopefully earlier ;) It has t-tops with shot weatherstrippi ng that's definitely going to need to be the first thing taken care of when I'm down there next, very mild rust issues, needs paint but I don't really care about that. Interior is red and pretty shot but I like to think it has character lol. Current upgrades already done fuel pump hotwire kit, adjustable fuel pressure reg., 3" downpipe, full exhaust inunknown type, remote? Fuel pressure gauge that tucks nicely under windshield wiper :) painted valve covers and I'm forgetting something(s) I'm sure they will be addressed ;) so the reason I have to wait until the car is "legally" mine is my dad and I made a deal that if I did 4 or 3(as I remember it) years in the air force he will give the car to me at the end of that time. Sounds like a great deal to me especially since this is my dream car. I'm currently stationed in Tucson az, so I don't really get to see my car or better yet my family very much. So as the upgrades come they will take a while especially since my dad has his own gn project to worry about. Ok so that's enough of that crap heres the fun part or at least it is to me...THE FUTURE UPGRADES! Alright so my dad informed me that before anything(mechanical wise) we need to change the valve springs and I'm guessing were probably going to go with comp 980s. Next I believe were going to put in 60# injectors. Then a te-44 turbo if I'm correct. We have a torque converter were also going to drop in once we send the transmission off for a rebuild. And the later on upgrades are meth, rjc pp, boost controller, upeer and lower nodded c/a, and rear shocks. I get stationed in Japan in April so ill be able to save a good chunk of change so I can be young and dumb and throw it all at my car when I get back(just kidding dad). Well I'm sure that I forgot some stuff but ill be sure to keep you all up to date. I'm always looking for ideas, I want a high 11 car. Any input is appreciated. :)
