Title: car show fee's
Post by: blown1 on December 30 2017, 11:51:51 AM
anyone else  see the rise in  entry fee's for  car shows?
here in Az $50 is the going rate, for  1 day show entry,
if its a 2 day event,  the cost  increases,

in speaking with some of my (cheapskate) buddy's, we have chosen to  not  pay.
 or participate  ,
sad, as alot of these events are fund raisers,  for good causes, but I question
if all the funds are going to  the charity?

there is a large buick event  in So Kalif, that for years, the organizer claimed  it didn't  make
any money, yet  he went gambling at a casino diirectly afterwards,  ( with event $$????)
current mgr if that event charges NOTHING, and still has excess $$ from 50-50, raffle, etc.
and attendance has doubled/ tripled .
go figure!

I run a small car show in our town, we charge 15 to pre register, 20 the day of the show. We have 4 charities the money goes to and it definitely gets dispersed. We get between 100 and 125 cars. It benefits one of our historic buildings where the show is held, our local food bank, fire co. and fire police. Most of the money is generated thru local businesses sponsoring the 20 trophies, advertising, food vendors the day of the show, and than the registration fee. I contacted one of our local (gorgeous) Traffic girls from Channel 8. She gave out the trophies and announced all our sponsors. She was a huge hit. I work on that show from May until the last Sunday in September, the day of the show. August to July 4th, I work on our Fireworks show. There is an astronomical amount of work that goes into a car show. Without our local Rotary, our Old Car Guys and Gals car club, and our Fireworks team it would be difficult to accomplish.
When I go to Carlisle, it's I think 55 for the GM show, 65 for the Mopar show, and 80 or so for the Truck show. They Thursday to Sunday, I found a spot off the back gate for my motorhome, I just park it there for a month. Sorta like a home away from home an hour away. All that money I'm sure goes right to Carlisle Events. But, Carlisle is a full time business that has to make a living year round by a limited amount of shows.
There is a huge free car show at one of our large churches, LCBC in June every year. It draws 1200 plus cars, only gives out maybe four trophies. I think the draw there is that just so many cars are there, and it keeps growing.

Geez, and I thought paying $20 a head to get into the goodguys thing was a ripoff. I guess I'm just cheap, you know, in true Buick owners fashion.

I guess of it were a good cause I could peal off some cash but to pay for the venue and a plastic trophy for some chain wearing car polisher id just as soon stay home.

I go out to the local gtg at the grocery store parking lot the happens Fri nights in the summer. I think it gets 50-100 cars. I hit is a fee times a yr as it is a lot of the same cars every week. But different ones show up so that makes it work a swing by.

Car shows every day of the week here in Ontario...all free. There's a big one in Oshawa once a year with a fee.

If that one wants to see my car...then they can pay me for showing up. Fuck 'em.

Lots of free ones here too but there are ones that collect for charities but still the price is only around $10, $50 seems extremely excessive!  I would ask for a tax receipt at that price, although I wouldn't attend at that price.

I just got tired of all the work for a cheap piece of gold plated plastic.  I go to cruise in's now mostly.  No judging just the cars

Paying money to look at trailer queens?

That doesn't sound like something I'd be into.

It sounds like our area is quite different than everyone else here. What I hear at our show is always the same: we enjoy getting together with other car people. The registration goes to a good cause, we'll be back next year! So even though it might not be popular here, others look forward to the area shows. I think when I was at the Texas race, there was a car show. At the MAGNA race at Cecil County Maryland there was a car show. At Summit there was a car show. To each his own.....

Local club here in Gatesville has a yearly show. Same cars, same car clubs that attend. They exchange trophies at each other's car show every year. My father in law and two uncles come up for the show but both uncles decided that they won't be back this year. Can't blame them. Have no idea what the fees go towards. I'd rather be wrenching on something. I mostly just go to the events that have racing.

We used to go with both cars to the big Oshawa show with the Buick bunch. Then the management changed and  they jacked it up to $30/car with a big waiver form to fill in. I'm not one to sit all day, walk thru the show a couple of times and I'm done. Both cars are drivers, I'm safe from needing a trophy shelf. Winning furthest-driven did pay for may gas at RC's tho...

The 2 shows I’ve participated in have been free, community type events.
