Post by: larrym on April 17 2015, 05:48:33 PM
So my wheel cylinder shifted on me did a few searches and heard about a clamp or retainer but no part number. Called my local parts store and got a "huh" from them as well. Did some more digging on line Part # GMB25851 brake drum wheel cylinder bracket called the store back they had 5 sitting on the shelf.....my first call they asked if I wanted the circle retaining clip....

Good find I never heard of that before but if the Backing Plate is in Bad/Rusted condition wouldn't a new backing plate be in order & then maybe add that for extra insurance? It's your Brakes!   :O

The ones I used looked nothing like that.

My backing plate was not in bad shape other than the rotated wheel cylinder saved me pulling the axles and made it easier to install the retarded clip

Granted it will avoid pulling the axle...

But our backing plates are the same as S10s and are all over the junkyard. I'm just trying to imagine how a backing plate can wear out. It's not exactly a wear item.

Either my clip was weak the casting on the wheel cylinder was shit. The new wheel cylinder fit much tighter but for the sake of drilling 2 holes I installed the retainer. Spoke to a buddy who is a wrench he says it's common on gbodys and brake boosting only makes it worse

I'm sure the E Brake launches don't help either!

Couldn't we just use an older "bolt in" style wheel cylinder, and just drill two holes to mount it??
