Paint and Body / Drip rail, weatherstripping, roof rail molding
« on: June 14 2017, 11:09:41 PM »
PITA

You will not be able to save your old weatherstrippi ng, just go on ahead and mutilate it from the start.

The roof rail weatherstrippi ng is hiding several screws.

Along the front of the window and rear of the window the molding is doubled up. You have to remove the first piece of molding to get to the screws to the second piece of molding. PLUS when separating the trim you have to deal with double sided foam tape and more tape to remove the second layer of trim.

Go slow and you won't hurt anything. Double check under the leftover weatherstrippi ng for hidden screws! If you come across a jam stop and check again. The trim comes out pretty easy.

The drip rail was easier to remove than I thought.

The nightmare is cleaning the glue and tape off the trim. Maybe the media blaster will work?

I was hoping to use aftermarket weatherstrippi ng to try and test so I could keep my NOS weatherstrippi ng boxed up. No way. I'm not dealing with this trim again. The weather stripping gets glued into a little fold on the trim - to prevent leaks I'm sure.

In the past I've heard bad things about aftermarket weather stripping. Fitment and hardness problems. I prepared years ago and bought NOS. Glad I did because I just searched thinking I'd buy more NOS weatherstrippi ng, hahaha, negative. I paid $600 for my sets, now your looking at $1100 to wrap both doors. Crazy! And I thought $600 was crazy.

As far as fitment though, I'm wondering if people are using the foam tape or glue to seal the molding. I'm thinking the glue method messes up the dimensions making everything flat where the foam tape puts space between the molding.

Before I go searching does anyone know what kind of foam tape to look for?

General Buick Tech / What's this wire?
« on: June 13 2017, 09:45:38 PM »
Door jamb vent driver side.
Wire goes into the cabin about 8 inches.
Connects to nothing, end clipped flush.
I'm thinking alarm pin for the trunk, aftermarket alarm.

Paint and Body / Aftermarket door shels
« on: June 07 2017, 02:42:28 PM »
I'm want to replace my doors. One has a little rust that may be bad in 5 years. Replace the whole thing and start fresh.

The ones I found are a half pound of so heavier. I'm concerned. I don't want to be the guy 10 years from now saying "yeah I went with the heavier doors and now my hinges are bad and the columns they bolt to are warped". Not to mention warpage that could happen where the door bolts to the hinge too.

Opinions? Go!

IHADAV8 Playground / Fibrgls bumper filler contest
« on: June 02 2017, 11:00:08 AM »
Contest ends JULY 5th at midnight (one month)

Post a pic of your defunct FRONT bumper fillers along with your username visable in the photo.
We will have a vote on who needs them more.

These bumper fillers are used and faded. There is a small crator on the Dr side filler in the bend by the grill that will need to be filled in to look great. Plus paint of corse. Fitment? Meh, who knows as all cars are different. They looked great on my car. I would use them but I bought spoolfools set before I checked the condition. But whatever, they're free. Also, the winner must be known amongst the boards.

General Buick Tech / Restoration

So I guess I'm just doing a frame up restoration minus messing with my dash because it's perfect and I'm just not going there.

Where is Gary Wells and his opinions when I need him?

I want to roll my fenders but I'm worried. No mods have been done to the body other than the rear seat braces. I don't know if I should do it or not.

Opinions?

General Buick Tech / Braces
« on: May 31 2017, 07:13:13 PM »
I must be doing something wrong.

I don't race my car but I still have a crack above the left b pillar. It's been repaired and came back.

I have the top engine bay braces.
I did have the bottom braces but I think I removed them for the RJC intercooler.
I have the rear seat braces.
Poly bushings all around.
HR bar.

I guess I should get the GNX rear seat brace also? What else can I brace besides getting a rollbar? What can I do to repair the crack for good?

For Sale/Trade/Want To Buy / Bumper fillers (front) trade

Both front bumper fillers for trade.
Gbodyparts fiberglass bought years ago.
I think if you painted them they'd look new.

Anything GN related would be considered. I bought spoolfool fillers because I thought mine were cheaply made and deteriorating. I should have checked first because they are fine. Wasted my money BIGTIME.

Send me a private message. I have references so no worries there, you must have references also.

Fillers are wet in the photo to mimic shiny paint

Are beautiful. I just unboxed them from Cruz Performance. There will never be a doubt of what brand they are because he has a logo fiberglassed in plus it's stamped into the filler in a couple places. I'm guessing I got an early run because they're numbered also. #2 rear and 4/5 for the fronts. In a few months when I get the car back I'll update the fitment. I'm in line to get my car blasted and painted. Man these things are nice.

And yes you can put these straight on your car they are that nice but mine will be painted. I'm going to go look at them again.
