Okay, after some vibrant discussions and the flexing of a certain massive bicep my Grand National will be fully functional again. The car desperately needs paint, and not in a BE4U kinda way, just 20 years old.
I have been going back and forth on a two tone, blue ghost flames, or all black with a Silver/Pearl clear coat. I just don't want the basic black, but something that will stand out and not in a gaudy way.
What do you think? Lemme know.
-
Blue ghost flames would look kick ass !
-
Um....ready by May? (grasps shaft)
-
I'm all for changing the color! Two-tone would be sweet.
-
I'm all for changing the color!
-
I've always liked this combo:

-
I've always liked this combo:
That *is* sexy as all get-out, but I think it's kind of obscene to mess with the color of a WE2.
-
I think the silver and pearl would be sweet! I am going with purple ghost flames. (Whenever this garage gets done.)
-
I am also getting the HNRpuffNstuff rear sway bar.
I am going to talk to the painting genius and see what kida idea he has.
-
If you go with the two tone scheme, I'd have them ghost in the Buick logo
on the rear quarters (reminiscent of the '82 GN) Maybe using a touch of prismatique
in the logo ?
-
puffNstuff LOL
-
I got the HRpartsNstuff bar in the mail yesterday. Off to see the progress of Project G Machine.
I have a paint scheme in mind...
Stay tuned.
-
Upper and lower control arms...
-
Looks nice. :supz:
-
I think I need to change my pants. Fuck. Mil Spec Heim joints?
I also agree with Rob, WH1 paint job, silver/black with the red pinstriping. BLOOD red man. Buick logo on back quarters.
-
Upper and lower control arms...
Sweet!! :prayer:
-
Okay, the fab work is all done. QA-1 coil overs at all four corners, custom control arms with heims, Paul Ferry rear sway bar, new tires and rims on the way.
The car is now on the ground and ready for the paint booth....
-
How are you going to paint it man?
-
I just can not decide. Nothing has really blown me away. It will probably be black with something in the clear. I do have one thing up me sleeve, but that will have to wait.
Once I get the car back, I have to save for a couple of weeks and get the Baer discs on all four corners. Then it's off to someone for precise tuning (player to be named later).
-
I had better have this chub for a reason...
-
^ I'm photoshopping some concepts for you. Fuck guessing.
-
Greg, tell me what rims and size you intend on using, so I can composite this nicely.
-
Black five spoke with chrome outers. 17", of course.
-
I like what I hear!
-
Here is the Paul Ferry sway bar and the rear coil overs...
I still can not decide on what to do with the paint! :pissed;
-
I'm sketching cracker!
-
Okay, body work has started, should be in the paint booth by the end of the week or early next week.
-
Give me one days grace! St. Patty's day wasn't taken into account. *hiccup*
-
Upper and lower control arms...
Which one's are those and who'd you order them from? Hindsight being 20/20, do you still like them?
-
They are a custom built unit. As for whether I like them or not, I haven't driven the car yet with them. I will let you how I like the set up, there will be a full report once I get this bitch on the ground.
-
Top Speed wants an update, Top Speed gets an update...
The car has been blocked and primed and should be going into the paint booth Monday. I am still undecided about the paint scheme....
I am down to solid black OR black with blue ghost flames.
-
Current condition of the car (as of 3/28/08)
-
From what I can see in the sanding, the cah looks pretty straight.
-
Yes, they are doing a great job on prep. I just need to get all new weather stripping for the car but I need paht numbahs for all the stuff.
Any help is appreciated. :D
-

April 3, 2008 12:30 PST...
The body of the car is painted. I am awaiting the arrival of some bumper fillers and a new front grille and then the small parts get shot. Final assembly with all new weather stripping will be next week sometime.
-
What brand\type of paint was used?
-
House of Kolor/ Black
-
Okay, here is a couple of shots from today..
-
Badges...
-
You lucky ^(*(*&(*&&&!!!! :supz:
-
That looks fuckin sick.
What rims? 17"?
-
Side shots...
-
Thanks. I am really happy with the way it turned out (so far). The pictures just don't do it justice. The subtlety of the flames is perfect. The way he gradiented (sp?) blue, purple, and silver is awesome. :prayer:
Look closely at the Grand National Badge. :yawinkle: :cool; It is actually air brushed on the car. :bigeyes; I took my original badges down to them with pictures off of gnttype.org for correct location and a 20 year old kid air brushed them on!
I have had to order all new weather stripping for the car, new front grille, new trunk bump stops, bumper fillers (front and back), and the antenna escutcheon. The bumper fillers literally disintegrated when they were removed.
G Body Parts supplied most of the parts to restore. They have been great to deal with. :supz:
I will be putting 17" rims and tires on. Once we get the car on the ground again I will get some shots of the QA-1 install and the Paul Ferry Sway Bar.
Most of the parts are on a truck coming this way, so depending upon their arrival I am guessing the car should be completely done in about two weeks. They are taking the rubber trim off the bumpers and the bumper guards off and filling the holes to give those a cleaner look.
Stay tuned...
-
MOTHER. FUCKER.
WOW.
-
That looks awsome! Wow! What a nice job! Congrats!
-
Thank you Donna.
-
MOTHER. FUCKER.
WOW.
No Shit WOW.
I thought the badges were airbrushed on...That's the only way to go :prayer:
-
I always wanted mine air brushed on. I think it is really "slick" airbrushed on. :psix;
-
I have uploaded the larger files to my website so you can see the bigger pictures. :D
http://www.hotrodbuick.com/projectgmachine.html Then just click on one of the FLAME pictures and you will get the bigger picture.
:cool; :supz:
-
-
Greg, I stand corrected. I would've warned against messing with the traditional black...
...but THAT IS FUCKING SICK LOOKING. Niiiiiice.
-
:D Thanks a lot everyone! It was a huge leap of faith to go with the flames and I struggled over the decision, but in the end it was the painter that swayed my vote when he simply stated: "Dude, it's just paint...." :rofl;
-
The car is completely assembled except for the wheels. You can not believe how difficult it is to find a black five spoke with a chrome lip that fits a GN! What is there? Like a billion G Bodies out there? My Gawd Man!
Stay tuned...
-
Get it done by September and I wont keep calling you names. :mad;
-
Bring it to WV and we'll go mud bogging in it.
-
I think these are the wheels I am going with...
http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals_detail.php?id=12611&type=vehicle&data=86
-
Sweet looking! I like. :atbeer:
-
Thanks, I am always unsure about wheels until I get them on the car.
-
.....September?
-
...maaaaybeeee .....
-
...maaaaybeeee.....
Jesus, bro- don't leave a dude hangin'....I've already promised foreigners rides in the fucking thing. Sheesh.
-
Cripes! Who in the hell did you invite NOW?!?!
-
Cripes! Who in the hell did you invite NOW?!?!
Let's just say that I'm planning to impress and my lousy dong wont fit the bill.
-
Let's just say that I'm planning to impress and my lousy dong wont fit the bill.
I don't think that Bill would want to be the recipient of your lousy dong either...
-
I am not sure I want the dong in my car either!
-
I am not sure I want the dong in my car either!
I believe your car has been dragging around a stupid dong since August 13th, 1987....?
-
Ahh.. hahahahaha.... ummm hmmm....
-
You can not believe how difficult it is to find a black five spoke with a chrome lip that fits a GN!
Dude, just find some aluminum rims, powdercoat the centers, and have someone polish the lips.
And keep don't let Sylvan get or offer road-head in the ride. You sick fuck.
-
I gave that some thought and it would be about the same cost as getting a custom rim and I just don't want to spend *that* much on wheels.
-
I will have to say that loos wicked...... now i need to figure a way to up you.... bur seriously...th at looks awesome.... :supz:
-
Thanks man! I appreciate it.
-
I think these are the wheels I am going with...
http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheel_deals_detail.php?id=12611&type=vehicle&data=86
Those will look good. What sizes are you thinking of?
-
17 x 8
-
17 x 10 in the back would look sweet.
-
Okay, I finally picked up the car tonite. I put up a quick directory, too tired to build a page. Enjoy!
http://www.racerguys.com/buick/
:cool;
-
That is fucking beautiful. My mouth seriously just dropped. I may just tape a picture of the ride to my ex's back one of these days...
-
Great job! Awesome car.
-
I'm so envious of Greg that I want to *be* him. I'd like to kill him, gut him and climb within his empty shell of a carcass and puppet his head about while murmuring from within, "Hi, I'm Greg and it's so awesomely awseome to be me!"
-

Whose mind hasn't that exact thought crossed more than once? :supz: (Except my thoughts spell "awesome" correctly)
-
The car looks great!!! :supz:
-
Thanks (except for Sylvan)! I have now taken the car to Sod Bogosian to go through the drive train and get it tuned right.
-
(Except my thoughts spell "awesome" correctly)
P'sha! I've seen you suffer incredible typos in the Shoutbox just like the rest of us. :finga:
Greg, I sure hope all of this build-up is for a good reason.
-
It is for a good reason. So I can drive it again.
-
It looks like a giant "Dub City" in that last batch of pics. You need Brian to
take some pics of it. Then submit them to the next calendar project.
-
Greg, that is fucking awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it! Holy crap! That is a very nice job they did. It is beautiful! Congrats!
-
Here are some better pictures and some shots of the new suspension as well...
http://www.hotrodbuick.com/projectgmachine.html
-
double post...
-
sweet....
-
The coil ovahs must be pissa. :supz:
-
The new pics do it far more justice. For this reason I will finally break down and say how I really feel.
Sexiest cah evah!
-
Wow what a toy collection!!! It must be nice to be you but I don't think I will gut you though. Awesome GN I bet you sank a bit of change in that bad boy. :psix;
