As some of you know, my shop got flooded. The GN was in the hobby shop and water got in from the seats on down. We called the insurance company and they've opted to total it. If the numbers are OK, I am more than likely going that route. I'm thankful for the good experiences we had with the car, but it seems it time to move on.
-
Sorry to hear of your loss, but only good thing you recovered your monies worth.
Are you going to part out?
-
we are all sorry to hear that! You don't have to be a stranger just because you may not have a Buick!

It's too early to tell. This whole ordeal has kicked my ass.

I'm a terrible lurker
-
I did not realize that you got hit like that. So sorry.
My take on it is that with wrenching all day long you weren't really enjoying something so "finicky" as a hobby outlet. Stupid black cars :)
You do seem enjoy your old iron much more.
Pretty sure pushing my GN into the gas station gives you a lifetime membership here :)
-
No real reason not to stay on. Just post about the stuff you do have and are wrenching on.
-
I share the sentiment a gearhead is a gearhead don’t feel a Buick all that we are about it’s just a common interest.

Sad to hear this Gary...
-
Sorry to hear that. Hope they give you a good settlement!
-
I haven't had a TR for years but I come here to keep up with the latest tech and listen to Beachbum complain about how stupid people are.
Luv ya Bro!
-
Sorry to hear that! Hopefully the numbers work out in your favor!
-
Sorry for your loss.
-
Damn that sucks. :(
-
I won't know any thing more until Tuesday. Thanks for all the support
-
Bummer Pyro! Good luck!
I lost my engine and all the accessories to a garage fire last year so I know how you feel.
Insurance company doesn't cover car parts!
If it makes you feel better, I know a good cause you can donate your engine too!

It looks like the GN is headed to the shredder

Going to junk, it will be one of those cars going down the highway on a car carrier with wrecked cars. I think they get auctioned off at special sales or crunched up for Pepsi cans. The numbers they are offering doesn't make any sense to buy it back
-
If it's truly going to the shredder, I'd strip that thing down to the bare frame.
-
How much for the engine?
I'm serious, I lost my engine to a garage fire.
Where you located Pyro?
-
If I'd buy it back I'd need 5K for the engine: Steel crank, forged rods and pistons, champion heads. Our quickest run was 11.17. Another grand you can have the 350 trans w/ reverse valve body. The insurance company wants to know by Friday what I'm doing. Mount Joy PA, 17552
-
Car will go to an Ins pool and sold at auction. I'll tell ya they arn't goin to run it threw a shredder. How high did the water get ? bottom of the seat ? Fresh or salt water ?? Salt water to me would make it a parts car. Take your $$$ an run.. Parting a car out isn't as easy as ya think. Good luck with your next project.
-
Oh... Pa. Guess it's not salt water .
-
I had it jacked up, replacing the wire harness and installing my XFI sportsman. The right front tire was off and so was the inner fender. I haven't had the time to work on it over a year since I worked on reviving our local Fireworks display. We had about 40 minutes from when the swale next door overflowed until I to turn off the electric. We ended up with 26" of water in the shop, No, not salt water. I don't know about another project, I'll be 62 next year. I might just enjoy driving the cars I have, I thinking racing is out of the picture.
-
That's out of my budget. I'm out!
Maybe someone local to you can pick it up at the auction.
Good luck, still sucks to hear.
-
Nope, it's gonna go.
-
Nope, it's gonna go.
It's time ... Life does go on :cool; For the other guys thinking about this car goin for "nothing" at the ins pool forget it. You would be surprised what it brings.
-
And what's funny, nobody wants to give anything for it now. I was really hoping someone get the engine. Like you said, moving on.
-
How much to pay for the salvage title and keep the car?
-

Unreasonable. Call me.
-
Just my 2 cents but no way in hell I would let the car go. They will make money on it for sure. I did appraising for a few years and they will sell it back to you for less than you think. Its called bargaining. Remember they want to keep you as a customer. I would have that thing stripped and parted out and $$$$ in my pocket. But I am old and like working on stuff that I have an interest in. :icon_lol:
-
If it wasn't for the mess I have at the shop and the legal garbage that is going along with, i would agree. I'm pretty much at the end of my rope.
-
Cleaning out the car is a sadder day than I expected.
-
Sucks to hear this...that much water the Buick isn't your only headache....go od luck man!!
-
Gary is the kindest, nicest car guy I have ever met. He didn't deserve this in the least.
Hard to believe he let me hang around with him...
-
Thanks Dave, I always look forward to seeing you and Deb. Out of all this BS, i collected a bunch of good friends. Mentioning friends, the Hershey show is in a couple of weeks, the anniversary of Charlie's death. I'd be jumping on a plane soon to get away if he was still around.
-
Another solution has come up. I applied for the salvage title today which I won't see for another week. Than I can submit it to the insurance company for payment. Let's put it this way, I welled a bit.
-
how high was the water ?? In the car ? Motor get water ??
-
Sorry to hear about your loss. If the insurance companies total it out will you part it out ? Don’t mean to come off as a vulture :O
-

Vulture!
-
Damn you Brad !!!!! That bad huh ?
-
Not being parted out, water never got into engine
-
Sounds like a bit of money from the insurance to get it back where it was and better!
-
I wonder if they'd give you $1 less than the magic number that totals it out (and leaves the title alone).
...or if those numbers would jibe.
If it's a small monetary hit, it might be worth it to keep the title unbranded.
-
I don't know Earl, I didn't get the impression they were interested in negotiating. And after this last month I don't know if i could take it. I've fielded so many opinions about the whole thing, this solution is a godsend.
-
It would be less money out of pocket for them and they wouldn't have to screw with the titlework. They might make it easy on you (if it's even possible).
Then again, if they think your car is a regular Regal, $1 less would be $49 or $99 to you.
-
I'm glad we talked you into keeping it.
-
Negotiating is all they are interested in. The other scenario that they like is when their "customer" takes the low ball offer and keeps paying them the "insure" the next thing. That is the win -win for them . Bust their balls they need it.
-

NOT happening. Insurance co protecting themselves. Well around here (NE area) anyway
-
I got the salvage title in the mail and scanned it to the insurance company immediately, as instructed, only to receive an automated reply the adjuster won't be back in until Monday. So me and the Eagle are going to Hershey tomorrow to unwind. Jay Leno just might be there.
-
Ask Jay if I can drive one of his Steamers!
-
He's doing a show at the American Music Theater near me. They say he scheduled it specifically so he could go to Hershey. I must have just missed him, he was driving around in a Stanley Steamer in the area I was looking for a 58 Chev for a friend. I have pictures on FB from a friend of a friend. I'll try to put them up here.

I'm posting this for an update and to save myself embarrassment. As most here probably know Jason has bought the GN (herein known as Black Phoenix) and will give it a better home than I could anyway. What most of you don't understand is the value insurance money I had on her is almost depleted to engineer and attorney fees. I wrestled with letting her go and watching her peeled away to reveal the half assed things I did to keep her on the track, I could have taken the value insurance and saved the embarrassment. So now that time has passed, go ahead and beat me up (jokingly). I never had any intentions to make her a street or show piece. We had Thomas bracket race at Maple Grove in a Jr. Dragster since he was 9 and we made the poor decision of trying to continue the hobby in a GN. We loved the Maple Grove track life, the Buick track life and all that goes with it. We made friends in MAGNA that more than likely we won't see anymore. I will continue to follow here though, because I've met so many of you and get a kick out of the humor. I don't have any more turbo cars but still have two supercharged cars, so I feel I still qualify. I'll be 62 in June, fireworks are still my main passion but I'm excited to see Jason's relentless energy bring the Black Phoenix to life.

I never had one intention of beating you up or embarrassing you Gary. That car had a purpose for you and your family. Without it, I never would have met you. I like to think of the car as having a new purpose now that’s all.

Reality check... that was yesterday an yesterdays GONE !! Don't dwell on anything! Life is way to short. You had fun with the car and thats it. Hell ya still have other cars Thomas can play with. You don't owe any explanation to anyone.. Lighten up an laugh at this post. Hell Melissa started in 1994 racing. I didn't race again till a few years ago.. I actually have more fun watching her an Russ having a blast doing what they want to do. Both are devoted car people. Oh as if I have to tell ya. Drag racing ain't cheap !! Russ prob has $50k worth of thinking on her car!
Now cheer up an do something even if it's wrong to keep the old mine occupied
-
Jason does the same thing to every car he buys, International Scouts, Ford Wagons, etc. He is not fixing your car, he is rebuilding it to the way he wants it! I was so happy to hear he bought it from you and kept it in the family.
He could buy either of my two remaining buicks and it would be the same story. I amaze myself some days when I am trying to sort out my wiring over the years. I think I have rewired my wiring three times in my GN, and I was thinking the other day, I really need to cut all this out and start over because no one will ever be able to work on this car!!
I found a wire under the dash that was not connected the other day. I plugged it in and nothing seemed to have changed. Then I was trying PL to see if it would work and saw that I now have an EGT reading again. On the other hand, I later noticed the fuel pressure sender was not working LOL Nothing to do with the EGT.
Now, I need to cut out two alky installations and find 600$ for a new alky kit.
Relax and know the car went to the best of homes and friends.:)

I think that is exactly what any northern car looks like when you take it apart.
I know mine is way worse. You better stick around- I know where you live :o

This week I needed to attend a planning commission meeting concerning the flood issues at the shop. Something that was at the back of my thoughts through all the garbage I've been through since last year. One of the resolutions was eminent domain: if it's going to be a non resolution issue, my property should be an extension of the basin. I'm probably going to lose my lead tech to a teaching job he is pursuing. I turned 62 Thursday. I'm not a whiner but venting is good for the soul.

That is what friends are for
