Track visit for the GS

Taking this old girl to track tomorrow and see how things go.
Not a TR but at least a Buick. :)

I'm excited. Maybe not a ten sec slip but I bet deep 11s. Did you get the tools together? Plenty of water and such?

I doubt low 11's if it humid. I wish TA offered a "cool runner" style intake in an SP-1


Hoosiers have 20 psi in them for starters.

Ok, made it to the track and didn't bust anything.....t here's a plus already.  :)


Best run was an 11.47 @ 119.5 with a 1.76 60'


This is a little off my best of 11.33 @ 120 in cool fall air back in October of '07.....man time flies. Anyway I only managed 4 runs and I got progressively quicker by reducing the jet size. Started kinda fat with 88/92's hoping the air would be cooler. Ended up with 85/86.


The car was spinning out of the gate on every pass.........n ot bad on last pass (1.76 60') but could still feel it spinning. I have Hoosiers QT's and went from 22 down to 17 psi. Seemed the more I loaded the converter the more spin.


Ok, as for the build here is in a nutshell what the car entails. This is a TR forum after all and I'll save the yawns for the purists.  :)
The car was bought in 2002 and I wanted it to be built with a "street sleeper" in mind. Ya right!


Drive line
Motor: 1970 block bored to 464ci zero deck. No hard fill or girdle. Stock 10/10 crank and rods.
JE forged flattops. Compression yields somewhere in the 11.7:1 range. TA STG 1 SE ported aluminum heads. Cam is TA's 290-08hl flat tappet with roller rockers. TA front cover and oil pump with all oil mods done. Intake is an SP-1 single plane


Trans: TH 350 full manual column shift. Coan 258 mm max converter (stall is approx 4000 spec'd to motor dyno)
Driveshaft is a custom 3.5" using 1350 series U joints.


Rear: Stock corporate 8.5" 1071 10 bolt. Upgrade to 30 spline Eaton posi and Moser axles.


Exhaust: TA's 2" primary tube headers into their 3" full system, using Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers.


Fuel system: Sumped stock tank with 1/2" lines. Mallory 140 electric pump and filter (return)
Out of the box Holley HP 1000 with downleg boosters.


Ignition: MSD distributor locked, with 6AL box with their 8.8 wires.


Cooling: Stock 7 blade clutch fan with factory shroud. Aluminum BeCool rad, stock water pump.


Body: All steel 1971 GS 350 car originally and still retains that look. No fiberglass anywhere.
Full bench with arm rest. Color is Burnished Cinnamon with Saddle interior.
Car retains all working options wipers ect... came factory with AC but that has been removed.


Sorry this turned out longer winded than I though but I think I covered everything.


Oh, the car is factory drum brakes/power assist. Wheels are the steel factory rallys and steel/with dog dish hubcaps.

Oh, I forgot to mention the suspension.


Only upgrades are front Comp Engineering 90/10's and H&R stock location rear control arms. EVERYTHING else is stock.
