IHADAV8 Playground / New T codes 32 and 44
« on: December 21 2018, 05:26:35 PM »
Ok guys, getting a tad frustrated with this ‘87 TR I picked up in early Nov.
I’m getting codes on the SM I picked up, so I can see through the window a bit clearer.
Car runs pretty darn good except at idle.
Here’s what I’ve done so far.
Denso 1001 02 sensor
Cleaned IAC....counts are around 20 hot idle
Fresh plugs, NGK UR5’s, good tested wires, coil pack ect..
FP regulator was toast so I pick up a 237 from Expander (thx Steve)
I have replaced ALL vacuum lines
TPS is st .42 @ idle
Fresh oil and filter.
Today I pulled the EGR and checked, it’s good and no blockage  and replaced gasket

The car is an original 79k Kms but sat a lot
I do have a stock TT chip burned for 28’s to install yet.
My suspicion is MAF, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t run like a beast off idle.
Maybe injectors?
The BL’s won’t budge off 150 at idle.
At idle cold it’s rather rough, not bad but til it warms up it’s a bit rough
Oh, I did do rap test in MAF as well, no change.
Maybe I should get that TT in and move from there?
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated

IHADAV8 Playground / Main bearing check?
« on: November 03 2018, 08:55:37 AM »
Guy can I simply pull the caps and check for wear?
I’m far from an engine guru.
I’m just concerned if I do this will I be creating issues or disturbing something?

General Buick Tech / Billet main cap replacement
« on: October 12 2018, 07:41:52 PM »
Guys TA offers 2 bolt billet main cap kits, either all four or the front 3

My question is, can this or would this be a wise upgrade on a USED stock block in good shape if your going to "push"it shall we say. Not crazy, but say with ported irons and a nice 206 or 212 roller cam with something like a 6262 turbo.
What would be involved in installing these caps? Simply pull the factory caps and insert your bearings into the new billet cap and retorque? (new ARP hardware would be added)

Forgive my ignorance as I've never dug into the little 6 before and I'm far from a machinist. TIA

Car Stereo and Electronics / Pioneer 4 X 10 rear speakers
« on: June 30 2017, 03:35:10 PM »
If anyone in interested in upgrading their original 4x10 rear speakers, I purchased a set of these direct replacement ones made by Pioneer.
I wasn't looking for something that would blow me out of the car but something as a nice upgrade with a little more kick for my factory original set up.
I'm very impressed with the improvement over the originals.
They are Pioneer TS-A4103. They fit in perfect with original hangers.

General Buick Tech / PL question on logging fuel pressure
« on: May 04 2017, 05:13:48 PM »
Ok guys I'm trying to get my FP values in check on my powerlogger with my mechanical gauge.

Just wired up my FP transducer and PL shows 40-42 psi at idle........my mechanical shows 44-45 psi, so it's off 3-4 psi.
From what I've read, you can adjust this value in the analog box 4 by entering a correction value.

How does one determine what value to enter? Is analog 4 the correct box for this input?

I'm using a 0.5-4.5V Transducer if that matters. All I did was enter 100psi in the drop down box for analog 4 and that's it. Nowhere did I input any voltage values, which I thought I would need to do. TIA

IHADAV8 Playground / Dishwasher died
« on: January 29 2017, 12:42:50 PM »
We purchased a brand new DW in 2010. It appears it's taken an early retirement IMO as there's power to the unit. Just stopped yesterday. Seems to me it didn't last long as would expect 10 yrs but they thing are made these days it doesn't surprise me.
Should I just bite the bullet and pony up for a new unit? Most searches say anywhere for 7-12 yr life span. Any thoughts?

General Buick Tech / Alternator question
« on: November 16 2016, 08:50:43 PM »
Hey guys.
I'm getting a little suspicious of my alternator's output. Seems pretty good when car is first fired up cold. It's in the 13.6-14.0 range. But after driving awhile the volts seem to creep down to the low 13's, and yesterday while I was out I seen the voltage flickering between 12.8-13.2 range.
This was at dusk and I had the parking lights on as well.
Is this an acceptable range when hot? This is the stock factory unit.
At the track, on my logs from PL the voltage is just shy of 13v at WOT........12. 8 range. TIA

Bitch/Whine/Moan / Crappy Tire Options MC
« on: August 30 2016, 06:05:19 PM »
Wow, where do I start.
Lets just say, IMO if your a loyal, hard working person that pays their bills on time and have never missed a payment or been arrears over the course of MANY years......... .CT credit thinks your just a POS!
I'll elaborate. I have been a card carrying customer for probably 20 years at least with CT. And NEVER have I missed a payment or had any issue of any sort with payments due.
A few weeks back I get a letter from CT Options stating that my card was no longer valid and was unusable. Here's the good part, I had a CREDIT.....yes a CREDIT of $27.xx to the positive. Due to the fact that I had not made a purchase with the card for some time, I now was going to be paying an administration fee of $10 and that my balance was now $17.xx
So, with that I called up to find out what the hell this is all about. The girl (and I'm being nice) on the other end basically tells me I'm SOL and because I'm not making purchases on that card for a period of time (even though they have $27 bucks of mine) the card is frozen and I will be billed that administrative fee EVERY MONTH.......ev entually owing them. This is what she told me would happen if I had not called in to investigate this matter.
I was dumbfounded to say the least, maybe I shouldn't have been, but this kind of customer service is pathetic!
Guys, if your a card holder in good standing with CT you mean nothing to them, again IMO.
The real twist is she had all my prior info right in front of her, CC history, timeline, the whole bit. But that played no role in the treatment I got. She was a snit! And no, I didn't yell and use abusive language in any way. I was left with the only option to tell her to cancel the card and send me the outstanding balance. She seemed more than happy to do this. I also sent an email to the complaints dept.........n othing!
They have lost a good customer FOR GOOD and I'll be letting everyone I know how they handled this matter.
Oh, and one last thing, just because I wasn't using their card DIDN'T mean I wasn't purchasing items with cash prior to this BS! Now, I never set foot in their store again!

General Buick Tech / New radial pro
« on: March 05 2016, 06:35:13 PM »
Has anyone stepped up the new MT Radial Pro? I'm going to give the ET Streets a couple more tries this spring but if my traction wows continue I'll have to do something, and a tire change may be in order. My ET Streets are in very good shape but with this new Husek converter it's blowing them off pretty easy at low boost launch. Mind you the track conditions weren't the greatest late last year, and that's why I'll try them a few more times this spring.
Just wonder if anyone on here has them and what difference they made.

General Buick Tech / Track results with my Limited
« on: October 13 2015, 07:45:11 PM »
Hey guys, made it down to TMP for a test & tune yesterday. Haven't been to the track since 09-10. Wanted to find out how this transmission I built would hold up. Happy to report the trans shifted beautiful with no issues what so ever. Almost looks like I know what I'm doing.  :icon_lol:

Anyway on to the results. I got 5 passes in and was somewhat disappointed at the start. 1st pass I only ran a 13.39 @ 101. 60 ft was a brutal 2.06 This was with the TT chip set on default. 18 psi alky set at 6 MT DR's at 27 psi. Could not hold boost and pushed through the beam, so I'm sure I lost some et there.

2nd pass I made no changes, but lowered the Mickeys down to 22psi. Still only 0-1 psi at line and went slower. 13.43 @104 with a 2.21 60 ft  :rolleyes;  Not sure where the better mph came from.

3rd pass was about the same . Little better 13.21 @105 crap 2.13 60 ft again.

4th pass I decided to forget about building boost at the line.....brake s just won't hold. Went into chip and pulled 10% fuel from 1st gear and added 2* timing in 3rd. Results were better as the car ran 12.7 @109 2.07 60 ft.

5th pass I figured I'd get a little more aggressive with the boost, so I turned it up to 22-23 psi and added some more timing 27/26* and pulled another 5% fuel from 1st (thought that may help the 60). Side note I got 0 kr on all runs which was nice
This pass I ran 12.38 @ 113 with a still crap 2.05 60ft. When the car left I could feel it unload the hides about 30-40 ft out

At that point I called it a day as it was getting late. I did see Rich (Bird) down there down there, man his car is something!

So here is my combo:
Motor is completely stock except for the addition of Comp 980 valve springs.
Turbo is a TE60, Precision .63 Ex housing. RJC 3" DP.
TT "ALKY" chip with 60 lb injectors. Mark Jackson stock stretch IC. LT-1 MAF/Translator

Suspension is all factory stock with an air bag in the right. 255/60 Mickey ET Streets

Trans is fresh 2004r with Husek 9.5 3021 LU

I think if I can can get the 60ft down to something respectable I can break into the 11's. I was going to try the 'ol jam the e-brake on at the line but chickened out. Was kinda disappointed I couldn't build more boost at the line with this new converter but really can't get it to hold past 1psi.

Any thoughts on these times? Oh, also the car is full weight Ltd.......prob ably close to 4000 lbs with me jammed in it

Transmissions / **THANKS RICH (TEXAS T)**
« on: April 18 2015, 10:03:19 AM »
Just a big thanks to Rich (Texax T) for sending me some teflon sealing rings and a couple of springs for my 2004r build. Not to mention his help and guidance with questions. Great guy, would not accept payment even for the postage!  Hopefully I can return the favor one day. It's people like Rich that make this community great.

Canada / Home electrical ?
« on: February 29 2012, 10:36:22 AM »
Does anybody know if there is a dedicated "colour code" of wiring that is used for a dishwasher?
Mine happens to be black from breaker panel to the DW. But, I have someone telling me, that line should be yellow. News to me, any truth to this?
