It starts with a good core

Your picture is broken and distorted. Over.

No pic...
-
That's a great looking blue question mark.
-
Let's try again
-
Something with what appears to be cruise control hooked the the carb. Is that a 401 for the jeep?
-
Looks like someone's getting a 5.2L transplant. I have a 93 5.2 2WD Dakota I bought just for such an occassion.
-
I wish it was an AMC 401! Magnum 5.9. Tore it down Tuesday and took the block and crank to the machine shop Wednesday morning. Been reading up on these little toque monsters. Not planning on a stroker build. Just a mild little street engine for a mid 80's short wide D150 I picked up. Engine quest heads with LA style intake bolt pattern so intake selection will be a little easier. Pics to come during the build

Pics will be coming. On a 10 day hitch right now. Be off next Friday

Tried posting pics about 10 times. I guess the camera on this phone takes too large of pixels fir the site. Tried resizing but then you can't see anything. I'll try again later
-
You must have a pretty fancy phone. Text em to me and ill give posting em a whirl if you want.
-
Resize them in Windows 10 in paint to 640 pixels.

Thanks Rich!
All the internals sitting on the bench. Kind of threw them up there as I was in a time crunch.
Recipient will be this 86 short wide. Solid inside and out. Surface rust on the cab roof.

Daveismissing will start drooling when he sees the patina...

My brother had an 85. It was black and loaded. We put a trans in it then it threw a rod through the side of the block. So he bought a remanned 5.2 I think it was . I know I goofed with the carb a bunch after he got it in and such. I kept asking him what he did to it to get it so far out of adjustment. He sez he still sees it around midland some times so I guess it is still running.
-
Block and crank are back from the machine shop. It amazes me that these newer engines don't wear like the older ones. No undersize on the mains or rods and just honed the cylinders.
Still can't up load pics
-
Text em and ill get em up . See I'm good for something haha.
You going to the motorolex in a few weeks? I saw Ken was posting he was going.

I haven't checked the dates to see if I'm off work. I'd really like to go and work the tune.
I cleaned the block, installed the cam bearings and thru some hemi orange paint on the block. Parts have started to arrive as well

Making more progress
-
Engine is mostly back together with a new bump stick from Hughes engines, new bearings, new rings, new timing chain and tensioner. Heads are engine quest drilled for an LA style intake. That allowed me to pick up an air gap rpm performer intake. Still need to get a carb for the build. Also need to get the old 318 and tranny out of the truck and have the tranny gone thru. Going to use the timing cover off the 318 so I can install a mechanical fuel pump. That's about it for now since I had to go back to work.
-
Gonna really be nice!
-
Pulled the worn out 318 and tranny. Dropped the tranny at the shop for rebuild and pulled the timing cover and v-belt drive for accessories off the old engine. Got the old timing cover cleaned up and installed on the magnum. May have some belt alignment issues....

coming along nicely
-
Resurrecting this old thread because I actually did some work on the truck. Picked up the tranny a few months back from the same local fella who rebuilt the Wagoneer’s tranny. Got the converter balance figured out only to have to elongate one of the holes on the flex plate slightly to work with the magnum balanced internals. With the wife working at school as the new elementary vice principal and my son starting back for his senior year, finally had some time to get this installed and running.
For those not on FB, here’s a few pics. Still need to install the Lokar cable for the tranny and throttle cable for the go fast pedal but it won’t be long before this little short wide is on the road.
-
That Magnum should pull that truck nicely!

Fun. Gotta love the roomy engine bay.
