4K is way out of my price range. 1080 will be a huge improvement from what I have now.

Now I've gone and done it. The gent I got the 7se Paradigms just acquired a Yamaha 7.1 RX V1600. I can run 2 sets of front speakers...so I'll be snooping around for 2 more Paradigm tower speakers...and 2 Paradigm side speakers. Got it off him for 250 bucks. Nice upgrade for almost no money.

How is 4K out of your price range?

In Feb of '19 I bought this - https://amzn.to/2nloSrB - off eBay for $331US (with a 10% bonus bucks coupon from eBay, and a 5% ebates.com cash back, so it actually cost less about  $290US to my door).  And that was almost a year ago, so odds are you can get bigger for the same money, or the same for less money.

So 55", 4K, HDR, and a warranty.   Oh, and it's a ROKU TV so my borrowed Netflix, hulu, hbo go, and Amazon were waiting on me along with my Pornhub prescription.

There's a good chance going 1080i might be more expensive than 'settling' for 4K.

That is because it's QLED and 75".  Here are some other options for regular LED starting at $900 for 75"

Maybe you should drive across and buy one?

Got my hands full at the moment. Heading to pick up the receiver...and then off to Toronto to pick up a pair of Paradigm Legend V2's with powered subs. Using these for the rears...and the 7SE's are going on the wall for the side speakers. And then picking up a pair of Onstage wall mounts for the 7SE's from another gent. And then picking up a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7V3's to add to the front Paradigms I already have. This is gonna be a killer home theater. Lots of mint stuff for sale on Kijiji. Putting this together for peanuts. Gonna work on the TV last...and it's gonna be a big as I can fit on the wall. I have a standing gas fireplace...so I need some distance from it to the TV.

Maybe Canada does not mirror the US.  Two years ago, I bought a new Samsung 65" 4k smart tv, whatever that means.  BestBuy had it marked down for sale from $2700 to 1900.  Today, the equivalent is about $800.

Current Technology lasts  about a year down here in the tv business and then it nose dives in comparison to the newest and bestest....TVs have become disposable.
You forgot we have tariffs! :P   It goes down here too.  Brad said Top End.  I was more referring to HIFI, like a Mcintosh Amplifier worth $10K today isn't dropping in price the following years.  The really high end TV's are coming down in price but not like your average set.

Sounds like you need to ax the seller to list it as a commercial sample (like I do when I ship to Canadia).

The exchange rate is a killer if you buy from the US.    I few days ago I bought a $99CDN item and it actually cost me $75US.

....AND my example was from 8 months ago, that's a major timeframe in TV's pricing.

Yeah it can be brutal, Earl!  General rule is what it sells for in US funds you add 50% for exchange and shipping to get the Canadian value. :(

I still haven't figured how what the hell NAFTA did when there's always been duties getting into Canadia.

I'm guessing you guys can't buy foreign goods direct from Japan and/or China because the US is basically the Wal*Mart store?    And all the available selection is mainly US sellers, even on Asian items?

Earl, I don't know how it works...but all I can tell you is everything up here is stupidly expensive. I'm nickel and diming the speakers and receiver...cuz if I were to buy new it'd be in the 5 to 7 grand range without breaking a sweat. I'll have about 1500 into speakers and receiver when all is said and done. I have a friend prolly upgrading his big screen...so I may grab his. It's a Samsung...thin k it's a 55...gotta talk to him about it...not sure what it is as far as HD etc. Electronic equipment doesn't hold its value. You can get good quality stuff for about 1/4 of what it was worth new.

Oh yeah, Right after I bought my TV I saw a friend at the gas station with his 'old' HD 55" in the back of his truck. I could have got it for free.  He just wanted to move up to a 65" so he replaced his perfectly fine TV.

No - it has HDMI, but if you are connecting a  soundbar to your TV via the HDMI ARC (Audio  Return CHannel), it may turn the TV on at random. Long time software issue that Samsung seems to not want to fix. If I leave my Sony soundbar plugged in, the TV will just turn itself on at random.

Asian stuff if direct comes without tariff but usually priced in USD then converted.
My stuff coming thru the US was having the US china tariff applied.
