General Buick Tech / Re: Exhaust upgrade questions for the 85 GN

Test pipes are illegal and most vendors wont put them up on a website to sell.  But most do carry them. Call by phone. If not, your local muffler shop (not a chain store) will make one for you.

A doctor friend of mine said the worst thing that happened to his practice is the wide consumer availability of blood pressure devices. His office must get 50 calls a week that my numbers went up of down two points and should I go to the hospital or come in to him. As most forget a banana or cup of coffee is the cause. Point is enjoy life and or your car

Your cam and lifters are well married at this point in time.  I doubt any minimal change in spring pressure either way would effect the cam lobe.
If your are installing new lifters on the old cam then there could be some concern. The K-motion are excellent. I have them and recommended to many without any issues.

You can get a 0-ring assortment for $10 from Harbor Freight or Amazon and have plenty of extras for future projects. Or take the hose off and bring it to a auto parts store that make hoses up and I'm sure they will have them.

Yes it has 0-rings.  Saginaw fittings with 0-rings. It's been a long time but I think its the same size as the fuel injector uses'

Steve I agree will all you said but my suggestion was aimed at his build and results. I took in consideration many unknowns like condition of  valve springs, history of knock real or false, maybe a little of both. He also has a entry level turbo similar to the old t44/49 series that will be running out of efficiency.  Focusing on his high 1.6's  and getting to the mid 1.5  and  timing/fueling combo's will offer safer path to mid and maybe low 11's
Recap.. I suggested I think closer to 5000/5200rpm shift and crossing the line I think.    I shifted mine closer to 6000rpm and crossed the line around 6400rpm. But that was with a billet roller cam and bigger turbo

looks like your numbers are pretty good. I wouldn't worry about getting higher rpm's with that cam. Get your 60ft time in the 1.5's and add a little more boost and timing as Steve mentioned and you should hit 11.40's

Not sure if your 206/206 cam is flat tappet or roller but that grind's power curve ends around 48000/5000rpm's. The roller may be 5200 rpm's.
Check your cam card or look up the brand and model #.  After the power curve the hp level drops pretty fast so make all your tweeks before you get to that point.

General Buick Tech / Re: OEM Headers: Crack & O2 Bung Repairs?
« on: July 16 2021, 12:12:29 PM »
When I was a fleet mgr for a very large fleet of mix use vehicles we kept a large inventory of heads and exhaust manifolds. They all crack after rough use comparable to racing like Grumpy said.  Now talk about our thin wall garbage, 35yr old stainless headers with a million heat cycles.
No way to make them better or add any life to them. Try TA headers or maybe custom Kooks headers if you want something that may hold up a little better.

I would just try and use the thread chaser and screw in a new O2 sensor with some high temp RTV on the threads.  Your only sealing exhaust gas  and not compression. It should hold and work. Even if it goes in a little off center, it won't effect the O2 readings.

I wont offer and advice on repairing the header tubes other then good luck.  The O2 bung is easy.  Its a sparkplug thread so a sparkplug thread chaser like a    Lisle 20200 will do the job. If not a sparkplug repair kit with helicoil will work. I wouldn't try and drill holes and reweld a bung on 35 yr old shitty stainless steel.

Steve you are correct.  A light align hone would be the correct way. But If you do that then polish crank then all that follows should be done also. Full machine shop service is $1800 plus parts on the way out the door.  If what does fails he may spin a bearing. The above charges will be the same. Only pulling the motor again. I got away with many looking worse than Dave's.  He is anal and will be alright:045:

Doesn't look bad to me. Clean up lightly with a oiled ultra-fine scotch-brite pad and replace the bearings. I would use the same brand size and part# as the old ones.

General Buick Tech / Re: Engine break in oil change
« on: May 08 2021, 09:05:25 AM »
Whatever good or bad in the build will show in the 1st hour.  Run it, drive it and change the oil the next day, week month of some favorite miles someone has in there head.  Any non-synthetic 10-30 works fine for break-in. If you load the break-in oil with zddp or special break-in oil or lube then change the oil the next day or two. That stuff clogs the oil filter and pickup.

I always had best results with GM limited slip gear oil with 1 bottle of gm additive. This is for stock diff and gears.  With a Eaton unit and after market gears Lakewood limited slip racing fluid (yellow bottle) with 1 bottle of gm additive. I never had issues or chatter, clunking with either.
